Unrushed, mellowly melting, blending and blooming, Oslo-based singer-songwriter, Selma French returns to sketch out plans for her second album with the release of her new single, Little Sisters and Friends. An unmapped roadtrip into the ethereal, the orchestral and empathetic, the six-minute tide of gently flowing moments of understated drama emerges from the ten-track, No Sign Of Rotten Leaves, released on Hype City on Fri 25 April 2025.

Blessed with the courage of a solo performer, spotlighted by her own introspection, folkish yet richly emboldened by electric guitar, strings, bold percussion and a warm vocal of seemingly borderless range, French’s 2025 reemergence follows last autumn’s quietly released single, I Think I Knew. Her first new music in over two years came at the same time as an extensive, 16-date UK Tour with former Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, singer and songwriter, Euros Childs.

As uneasily compared to similarly existence-affirming Norwegian artists, Susanne Sundfør and Jenny Hval, as to holders of other passports, including This Is The Kit, French’s collage of ideas form as many pools of deft simplicity as deep lakes of rewarding complexity. Somewhere fascinatingly set between the two, Little Sisters and Friends glides in as a cornerstone of No Sign Of Rotten Leaves, inspiring the artist to find the open door to the rest of the album.

She says of the single: “I wrote this song on a borrowed electric guitar. It was missing a string and was very squeaky sounding, but it was natural match. Writing this song on this guitar marked the beginning of writing my second album. The song is about caring for youth and anyone who finds themselves at a fork in the road.”

Written in Oslo and Hemnes during 2023, the album will be released on multiple formats including vinyl, CD and digital. Alongside the release of Little Sisters And Friends, French has confirmed the track listing as follows:

1. Cold Coffee On The Shelf
2. I Think I Knew
3. Pine Tree
4. Little Sisters And Friends
5. Shadows Of Evil
6. Hunt
7. Swim In December
8. Still Do Anything
9. Joanna
10. Goodnight Seeds Of Hope

French’s studio band includes friends and collaborators from a close-knit, connected Norwegian indie-folk community. As well as leading with her evocative vocals, French plays guitar and fiddle.
