London indie newcomers Y share brand new single ‘Hate’, out now, marking the second reveal from their forthcoming debut EP ‘Y’ (pre-order vinyl here), set for release April 4th via Hideous Mink Records (Alien Chicks, Opus Kink) & SO Recordings (Enter Shikari, Deadletter, Big Special).
Comprising of members from or involved with Fat White Family, Meatraffle and Pregoblin, the genre-defying band burst onto the scene last month with debut offering ‘Why’, attracting plaudits throughout the press community from the likes of DIY, Dork, So Young, The Line Of Best Fit and Rough Trade, as well as spins across the airwaves on BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Amy Lamé, Emily Pilbeam) and Radio X (John Kennedy).
Signed to Hideous Mink Records & So Recordings, the group have crafted a sound that is as bold as it is unclassifiable, whilst their explosive live show has earned them recent supports alongside the likes of Fat Dog and Keg. The band will also headline London’s iconic 100 Club in April to coincide with their debut EP’s arrival, as they prepare to solidify their reputation as one of the most captivating new acts in the capital and beyond.
Speaking ahead of the release of ‘Hate’, the quintet explained: “‘Hate’ is a love song. It is a homage to the downtrodden and a celebration of everyday anguish and petty resentments we all feel. Birthed on a rainy day, with little money in the bank, ‘Hate’ was written in response to a hilarious moment of self reflection. It is a love song inverted, it is a hate song.”
Y’s ‘Hate’ is out now via SO Recordings and Hideous Mink Records and available on all digital platforms.
Y is Adam Brennan (vocals, guitar), Sophie Coppin (vocals, synth), Dan GB (bass), Fells (drums), Harry Mchale (sax)
