Polly releases new single ‘Keep Busy’
"I’m just trynna keep busy while time heals me."
This Valentine’s Day, Danish singer-songwriter Polly releases her new single, Keep Busy—a song that captures the quiet helplessness of heartbreak with a timeless, lingering melancholy. Set in the aftermath of a breakup, it finds the protagonist surrendering to the ticking of a metronome, the only rhythm that feels steady when everything else is unraveling.
The song’s lyrics serve as a reflection on the experience itself: what do you do while waiting for time to heal your wounds? You keep busy. Some people binge-watch the same series on repeat, others throw themselves into new hobbies or swipe through dating apps. Polly wrote a song—one she describes as “a Valentine’s card for broken hearts and for those who need to dwell on longing for a little while.”
Minimalist yet deeply evocative, Keep Busy encourages an unflinching confrontation with difficult emotions. Polly’s raw and honest vocal performance is accompanied by a chorus-drenched guitar, its blue undertones rippling like a fading memory, while the fretless bass—drawing inspiration from Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush—both anchors and pulls the listener under. The production, reminiscent of ML Buch and Sade, creates a delicate yet immersive atmosphere.
Polly is the artistic moniker of Amalie Hannibal Petri, a 28-year-old Danish singer-songwriter. After releasing her debut album Invitation in 2022, she teased the sound of her upcoming second full-length album, Ice Skater (Rhizome, May 2025), with two singles last year. Eyes on the Road and Rockstar were hailed as “an artistic rebirth” by Desert Island Cloud, and now Keep Busy serves as the third and final preview of this highly anticipated evolution.
Keep Busy was written by Amalie Hannibal Petri and Nicholas Kincaid, recorded by Andreas Murga, and produced in collaboration with Anton True Klüver.
