Pete Briley shares single ‘All My Friends Are Wasters’

Have you ever been stood at a party, stuck talking to someone you just cannot stand…?

We’ve all been there – but the enigmatic Pete Briley, as ever, takes the experience on with a wholly different perspective.

“…all he could talk about was how much money he made, what car he drove – it was all material status.  I remember thinking that this guy would think my friends and family are all wasters…”

Musically, this track encapsulates the typical joy and experimentation within its composition – something for which, Pete is very much becoming renowned for.  “I used percussive tubes tuned to a scale to make a rolling rhythm track augmented with synthesised Moog Subphatty kick and snare sounds”

Citing influences from the ‘Pet Sounds’ album by the Beach Boys, Briley intertwines vocal lines playing together to create the textures in the chorus.

All My Friends Are Wasters is an ode to the bohemian friends that would never be understood by this stranger at the party.  Someone who could never understand the square pegs in round holes all trying to catch a wave – and that just makes Briley love the people in his life all the more.

Never one to follow the crowd – Pete Briley’s latest track continues the trend of intelligent lyrical content with masterful composition, while continuing to provide audiences with tracks which resonate deeply with infinitely relatable life experiences – and they never fail to leave you with a real flavour of the unbridled joy this artist has in creating his music.

BIO:

Pete Briley is an overrated upstart with ideas above his station.

With an entrenched fascination for anything that makes a noise, this southern multi-instrumentalist has a knack for combining weird and wonderful instruments, clever chords and unique songwriting techniques with undeniably interesting and engaging melody and thoughtful lyrics.

Whilst he is probably best known for his role in The Outlaw Orchestra  (Banjo and Pedal Steel) and touring the country alongside the likes of The Darkness , Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, Reef  and Kris Barras Band, Pete Briley's solo output is his playground. You can hear the broad spectrum of influences bleeding through into his songwriting, filtered through his own production and recording techniques and weaved with his distinctive, idiosyncratic way with words

Pete’s debut album was released in 2023 and  includes BBC Introducing Track of the Week and Best of 2023, ‘Elvis’, alongside the singles ’Rhonda’, ‘Right Place, Wrong Time’, ‘Sick and Tired’ and ‘Go To Bed’. The album is a smorgasbord of tracks featuring a collection of talented musicians including Dane Campbell (Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons), Jonny Moody, Ryan Smith (The Outlaw Orchestra) and Nebojsa Pavlo and has received really positive feedback.

The first single 'Colour (California)' from Pete's forthcoming second album was released on 16th August 2024 followed by 'Cracking the Flacks' on the 6th December. The third single from Pete's forthcoming 2nd album 'All My Friends Are Wasters' will land on the 7th March 2025.
