PALEJOY Bring ‘Payne’ with New Single Out 21st Feb
Known for their introspective lyrics and raw, emotionally charged sound, Aberdeen emos Palejoy are set to release their brand new single Max Payne Au Chocolat across major streaming platforms on 21st February.
Following the release of their single I Bet Heaven Isn't Real At All in November 2024, Max Payne Au Chocolat continues Palejoy's exploration of vulnerability, emotional complexity and human experience. The song touches on the story of a short-term relationship marked by emotional abuse and struggles with depression. In the narrative, the protagonist, despite their unwavering care and concern for their partner, is left to deal with the fallout of their partner’s internal struggles—those issues so deeply entrenched that they blind them to the damage their words and actions are causing. It’s a heart-wrenching look at how love can be distorted by unspoken pain and emotional turmoil.
Lyrically deep yet sonically accessible, Max Payne Au Chocolat marries a fun title and a feel-good, bouncy riff with themes of heartache and emotional betrayal, giving it a unique blend of emotions that fans of Microwave, Hot Mulligan and Jimmy Eat World will find familiar yet refreshingly original.
The accompanying visuals add another layer of complexity to the single. The artwork showcasing an aerial shot of tulip fields in The Netherlands, a striking homage to City and Colour's album Little Hell , and a nod to the band's lyric 'drifting off to the voice of Dallas'. In keeping with their ethos, the band also produced a DIY music video reflecting the intimacy and personal touch we have come to expect from Palejoy.
With this latest effort, Palejoy continue to refine their sound, blending emotional depth with infectious melodies. Recorded by Ewan Simpson, and mixed and mastered by Mark Morrow, Max Payne Au Chocolat is set for release on 21st February across all major streaming platforms.
