LOWSWIMMER announces new album 'Godspeed, Fantasy'
Bristol based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Lowswimmer, has today announced the forthcoming release of his new album ‘Godspeed, Fantasy’, due out June 6th 2025.
Speaking of the album, Lowswimmer says, “Godspeed, Fantasy was written 2 years ago, during a period of great change in my life. It was hugely cathartic at the time, subconsciously writing about allowing yourself to be who you are, whilst pushing yourself to change in the ways you, and only you, want to. Releasing it now is just as cathartic, a marked change in Lowswimmer stylistically, and the most ambitious record I’ve ever released across all 5 of my projects. I wanted the record to be bursting at the seems with melody, and be full of addictive vocal and synth parts, leaving much of the lyrical content open to interpretation for the audience to project themselves into what I feeling at the time. I couldn’t be more excited for people to hear it.”
To coincide with the announcement of his brand-new album, Lowswimmer has released two new singles ‘Nosebleeds’ and ‘Open Season’.
Talking of both new singles he shares, “Nosebleeds has a similar sentiment to the previous single, IRL. Trying new things, but being true to yourself and staying within your comfort zone and that being ok. Realising you haven’t been present enough, and trying to change that. These songs were written during a huge shift in my personal life, and were my way of both trying to push myself and give myself more slack.”
“Open Season is being thankful for the people in your life that help you through. Friends, family, colleagues, even strangers. Beating yourself up in your head and realising that talking and verbalising things makes everything easier.”
Where Ed Tullett’s career to-date has been defined by the people working alongside him, his new album under the Lowswimmer moniker lives and breathes as the opposite. Through his work as a part of Lissom, Hailaker, Tolari, and as chief writer for Novo Amor, his vision has been beautifully blurred, a weaving of ideas that has led to a huge body of collaborative work. Godspeed, Fantasy, a brand new collection of songs, thrives within its self-imposed confines. Mostly written in isolation, very much a product of his own intention, it’s a melodically rich, ambitious and euphoric collection of songs.
Featuring eleven new tracks, all of which were predominantly written in Ableton, Godspeed, Fantasy is brought to life through digital tricks and experimental synths. Occasionally reaching outside of those walls, Ed asked just a handful of friends to add dashes of strings, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and drums, organic instruments that allow a small crack of light in, illuminating the ground between the acoustic and the electronic.
The result is an album that feels invigorating in its wide-eyed optimism, like a purging of shackles that weren’t obviously suffocating until the freedom from such a thing was noticed in the quiet aftermath. In its diverse array of sounds and sentiments, in its quietly intense display of unlocking, Godspeed, Fantasy is a unique and towering artistic expression brought beautifully to life. It’s a sentimental deep-dive, but also an open canvas where listeners can add their own splashes of colour, find their own path that leads from the intangible to embracing a place of heartening acceptance.
