LANTERNS ON THE LAKE ANNOUNCED AS OPENING PARTY HEADLINERS FOR A STONE’S THROW FESTIVAL 2025
PLAYING KING STREET SOCIAL CLUB, NORTH SHIELDS, SATURDAY MAY 24TH
A STONE’S THROW FESTIVAL 2025 - THE NORTH EAST’S COASTAL MUSIC TRAIL | MULTI-VENUE EVENT SUNDAY MAY 25th
A Stone’s Throw Festival has today announced Lanterns On The Lake as their first opening party headliners for 2025’s edition, with the band set to play King Street Social Club, North Shields on Saturday May 24th.
Taking place the day before Sunday May 25th’s multi-venue festival, Lanterns On The Lake will be heading to the musical hotbed of North Shields on Newcastle’s stunning coastline, with the 2020 Mercury-nominated quartet primed for their first North East show in almost two years.
Speaking ahead of the announcement, frontwoman Hazel Wilde stated: “Talk about hometown gigs - this one is about a 3 minute walk from my front door.
We’ve been under the radar for a few months working on lots of new songs so we thought we’d venture out to play an intimate show and hopefully play a handful of the new songs while we’re at it. This will be one of only a few gigs this year whilst we begin recording and all that stuff."
Headlined by post-punk powerhouses Shame, Sunday May 25th’s multi-venue lineup is set to feature Bristol alt-folk riser Katy J Pearson, Australian psych-fuzz favourites Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, thrilling rockers Man/Woman/Chainsaw and indie stalwarts Swim Deep, alongside a host of the North East’s finest talent.
Debuting in 2022, A Stone’s Throw’s first two events have featured 100+ artists, swarming Newcastle's coastline and forming the first North East coastal music trail between Tynemouth and North Shields, with the likes of Sundara Karma, Sam Tompkins, Pip Blom, Berwyn, Lauren Hibberd and Heidi Curtis all on the bill. Transforming coffee shops, event warehouses, CBD dispensaries, and working men's clubs into fully fledged music venues for the day, the festival also collaborated with Go North East and North Tyneside Council to provide an open top double decker bus service, transporting wristband holders from venue to venue, whilst live brass bands performed on the upper deck.
Now taking place solely in North Shields, A Stone’s Throw will be run in association with the council-led scheme NS 800 (a year-long calendar of exciting events that celebrates North Shields past, present and future), as part of the town’s 800th year celebrations. The Go North East bus service will once again be included in the ticket price, and will run an even quicker service between the 5 participating venues The Exchange 1856, King Street Social Club, Salt Market Social, Three Tanners Bank and The Engine Room, ensuring the festival is primed to provide another refreshing, unique and memorable music festival experience.
Detailing their first opening party announcement (more announcements coming soon), founder Anthony Thompson (Notion Live Events) stated: “We're incredibly excited by our second announcement which will see us add a Saturday opening party at the exciting King Street Social Club! By adding local 2020 Mercury Prize nominees Lanterns on the Lake as our Saturday headliner, we feel we've not only secured an amazing artist but have also contributed to shining a bright light on our region, which ultimately, is our main goal with A Stone's Throw Festival. We encourage people to follow our social media and engage, we have LOADS more planned and can't wait for the late May 2025 bank holiday!"
