March 4 - Dreamy alt-rock artist Dutch Mustard - the moniker of Sarah-Jayne Riedel (AKA SJ) - releases new single ‘Dreaming’ via DM Records.
SJ has refined her skills as a songwriter and producer to a fine art - the hazy sonics bleed effortlessly into misty human emotion, as she explains regarding this track:
“Dreaming captures that strange grey area at the start of a relationship—when you're unsure if it’s real or just a dream. It’s about a rare, true connection and the vulnerability of opening yourself up, letting someone in, and wondering if they’ll meet you in the same world.”
Getting tips on past releases from Bill Ryder-Jones, Dave Sitek, and Antony Genn SJ’s hungry approach to self-improvement is evidenced in the evolving nature of her music. Earning personal hours in the studio she works at, every second counts, and the result is a precise, modern take on shoegaze, shunning the grungy aesthetic for something more artful.
‘Dreaming’s release comes on the eve of Dutch Mustard’s debut US shows - performing at New York’s cult showcase festival New Colossus over the next handful of days, and marks the first musical step forward in a busy year of releases and UK tour dates for SJ.
ABOUT DUTCH MUSTARD
Netherlands born Dutch Mustard marries a blend of ethereal dream-pop and 90s alt-rock with timeless shoegaze touches. The overall soundscape layers abstract drones and washes with bouncing psych-infused guitar lines, whilst SJ’s vocals drift between a borderline whisper and heaven-directed lung-bursts.
The approach is firmly rooted in 2025, but the 90s influences aren’t hidden. She falls in-line with an exciting new wave of artists, with eyes to the ground, and heads in the clouds - NewDad, Bdrmm, Pale Blue Eyes, mood bored for example - who are making a fresh take on a storied genre.
2024 singles ‘Loser’ and ‘Thank You’ earned Dutch Mustard multiple spins on BBC 6 Music courtesy of indie doyen Steve Lamacq, and SJ recently sat in for an interview and session with John Kennedy on Radio X. She followed this with a London show for Kennedy’s The Season Festival.

In 2022 she released her debut EP An Interpretation of Depersonalisation, which was quickly featured by the BBC, getting airplay on Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders and being selected by none other than rock's enduring sage Iggy Pop. This was followed by the Beauty EP in 2023, which saw similar acclaim - notably with multiple spins from Lauren Laverne on 6 Music, as well as backing from Huw Stephens, Don Letts and Amy Lamé.
Press wise The Independent, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, DORK and Notion have supported in the UK - and perhaps most tellingly she was picked out by The Grammy Awards Site as one of ‘6 Female Fronted Acts Reviving Rock’ alongside Wet Leg, and others.
Since her debut release SJ has spent time writing and experimenting creatively, while also juggling bar work at one of London’s infamous music haunts, and engineer work at a prestigious North London studio. Surrounding herself with music at all times and always pushing to learn from those around her has made for a formidable band leader.
