In this interview, Irian shares her experiences, influences, and the heartfelt messages she aims to convey through her music.

Click Roll Boom: Tell me about how you got started:

Irian Darkwood: I have been singing since I was quite small, I always wanted to be a professional musician, I always looked up to singers and even people, say the choir in school.

CRB: How would you describe your sound, and how has it evolved since you first started?

ID: Well, I would have to say that my sound changed quite a bit over the years, I started out as a karaoke singer, and then I kind of got into the country music scene believe it or not, and as time went on I found that that wasn't my best genre that I sang in so I branched out to a little bit of blues and then I eventually landed on singing 90s and 80s rock music and metal music, and that's when my current team heard me and they thought that this had really good potential so, they picked me up, and here I am today.

CRB: Who or what have been some of your biggest influences, musically and beyond?

ID: I've had a lot of influences over my lifetime, musically, when I was younger, I really looked up to people like Céline Dion and Mariah Carey, and then it branched out into idolizing people like Reba McEntire and even Dolly Parton, and then now these days a lot of my influences from people like Lzzy Hale, I really love Lzzy Hale, and many other artists from like the 80s and 90s of course ha ha.

CRB: What does your songwriting process typically look like – is it a more individual or compliment collaborative effort?

ID: Well for me personally I tend to write poetry more so than in the song structure, so I do get a little bit of help from my team for that so I guess the answer for that would be that it would be more collaborative.

CRB: How do you approach experimenting with new sounds or ideas when creating music?

ID: Really depends on what it is ha ha, but mostly I tend to take the challenges head on, sometimes I'm a little bit wary, but it's always a good learning curve so I always enjoy new things.

CRB: What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your journey so far?

ID: Honestly so far my most memorable moment I think is when I went to Sweden and I went to Stockholm and I got to see the studio there and, I recorded the video for my second release Greensleeves there, it was really cool, really fun, it's a really beautiful place and I highly recommend everyone go.

CRB: How do you prepare for live shows, and what do you aim to bring to your performances?

ID: I haven't had any live performances yet, hopefully they'll come soon, and when they do I plan to bring high energy, lots of emotion, hopefully things that the fans can relate to.

CRB: How do you balance creative expression with staying connected to your audience?

ID: I try to make all of my songs relatable for everybody, my songs all carry messages in it, so be recovery from addiction or mental illness, or you know that Internet creep, or lost love, you know those kind of things, I think to stay with topics that people can relate to is important.

CRB: What do you hope listeners take away from your work?

ID: My aim is to let people know that they're not alone, there's always hope, and I'm just like everybody else and I have the same kind of struggles and things any human does.

CRB: What does the future hold for you – any plans or goals you’re excited about?

ID: Yes, I have lots of new music coming up I'm currently working on a fourth release, so keep an eye out for the new stuff and yeah it'll be a heck of a ride!
