Dublin risers Hotgirl share rollicking new effort ‘Sisyphus’, out today (February 27th) via Cartoon Records, marking the third reveal from their forthcoming ‘Blast Off’ EP, arriving April 10th.
The follow-up to lead singles ‘On The Brink’ and ‘In Your Head’, Hotgirl are already attracting plenty of fanfare throughout the indie landscape, with key champions including DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Paste, Rough Trade and Under The Radar all throwing their support behind the band, ahead of what promises to be a busy 2025 live schedule.
With the band now firmly established as one of the standout acts in Ireland’s thrilling emerging scene, the quartet are set to build on previous supports with Sprints, Pillow Queens, Fat Dog and Cliffords with further enticing shows alongside acts including Fat Dog, Lambrini Girls, Mannequin Pussy and Gurriers lined up for the coming months, in addition to their own Dublin headliner.
Marshalled by enigmatic frontwoman Ashley Abbedeen, and ably supported by the angular lead guitar lines of Sophie Boxwell, the booming breakbeats of Nick Stanley and the low-end thump of Jake Hurley (Local Boy), Hotgirl are certainly primed to take full advantage of their EP release, having collaborated with esteemed producer Neil Kennedy (Milk Teeth, Creeper) on their latest material.
Speaking ahead of their ‘Sisyphus’ release, Abbedeen explained: “This song is one I’m most proud of lyrically. I’d gotten very into writing poetry after our first EP which has really helped with my songwriting. I never was able to say exactly what I wanted in any profound way so I didn’t bother. With this song, I found myself getting excited about analogising my life. I’m trying to make sense of why I am the way I am, and as I slowly make peace with all my traumas, I start to forget why I couldn’t let them go in the first place.”
Hotgirl’s ‘Sisyphus’ is out now via Cartoon Records and available on all digital platforms.
Hotgirl is Ashley Abbedeen (Vocals, guitar), Sophie Boxwell (lead guitar), Jake Hurley (bass), Nick Stanley (Drums)
