ALBUM REVIEW: - an eeriness to everything
"an eeriness to everything" is the sophomore release from Pensylvanian alt rock duo Observe the 93rd, it follows their 2018 debut "Alive"
Musically complex the album relies heavily on classic alt rock riffs and soaring vocals while also borrowing from Metalcore and Hip-Hop. It sometimes even manages to sound a bit poppy.
Taken at face value to record it an epic arena filling offering that is a pleasure to listen to from start to finish, however a more closer listen reveals dark themes challenging thoughts of suicide and dealing with addiction. The album is a light at the end of the tunnel showing that there is a way out and things get better.
The songwriting is clever and polished, the album sounds like the work of a band who have been around for decades with a far greater following than just shy of 400 monthly Spotify listens.
"an eeriness to everything" starts with the sinister, instrumental title track leading into the catchy but dark "Dopamine" and continues on twisting and turning through various stages of hopelessness injecting unexpected elements to keep things interesting.
"Old School Summer" is definitely the most lyrically lighthearted and accessible to those looking for something easy to listen to.
While "Where the Ocean Sleeps" offers some wonderfully jangly guitars and follows on the story of contemplating suicide from "TRL" and being thankful to still be alive.
"TRL" itself is lyrically incredible with an 80's feel. Like the rest of the record it offers some wonderful vocal harmonies.
I don't have a bad word to say about this album, it's relatable, real, passionate and an absolute joy to listen to. Go check it out and give these guys the recognition they deserve!
