yasiin bey teams up with The Alchemist to release a new project entitled FORENSICS
Live stream to premiere on Bandcamp on Friday 7th Feb at 9:00pm CET
In a live stream performance on Bandcamp at 9.00 pm CET, Friday 7th February 2025 yasiin bey, alongside producer and DJ The Alchemist will perform their new album FORENSICS for the first time to a wider audience, following on from their inaugural concert at Le Trianon in Paris on January 25th during Paris Fashion Week. The FORENSICS project is the outcome of a collaboration between the two artists that began in Los Angeles in 2023, having been brought together by their mutual friend Chace Infinite. The live stream costs $9.99, and will be available for replay to viewers for 48 hours after the event. It will also be possible to purchase replay of the performance on Vimeo OTT shortly after. The full album is predicted to be released for audio download on Bandcamp towards the end of Q1 2025, with a vinyl release to follow shortly after.
FORENSICS™ is more than the name of an album, it’s descriptive of a new approach to delivering art, bringing together the experience of musical content with fashion, visual art, technology and community. The approach foments an intimate bond with the artists’ core audience, delivering an experience that resonates on multiple levels.
Bandcamp users will have the opportunity to purchase a range of album-related merchandise items, caps and wearable artwork for now, all of which include a scannable ‘BUMP™’ tag. Users simply ‘bump’ their smartphone on the tag, each of which is unique and registered on the blockchain. The merchandise can be seen on Bandcamp here.
The BUMP™ tag leads to an online link to register the owner on a secure website that will, initially, give access to a selected audio track from the FORENSICS album, replay of the live stream video, and the album art. This approach to putting out new material is the one of a number of upcoming releases intended to inextricably link the acquisition of music to the artwork, apparel and supporting video footage, creating a stronger and more creative bond with the audience.
The accompanying album artwork, entitled The Weight of an Ant sees him again collaborating with Spanish-Moroccan friend and artist Anuar Khalifi, with whom bey has previously worked with. Both Khalifi and bey are represented by The Third Line Gallery in Dubai.
Forensics kicks off 2025 as a landmark moment for both bey and The Alchemist, with more announcements slated to come as the year unfolds.
