Who Is John Rawstron?

Hey there, I’m John (46) a Published Photographer originally from Romford but have been living in Norwich for 22yrs.  Aside from being a Liverpool supporter supporter since the age of 7, which can be more painful than being caught in a mosh pit, I have a love for Photography & live music.

My Photography journey started in 2014 when my late Father a former professional film photographer, handed me my first DSLR and I haven’t looked back.  After working with various models around the UK and gaining more publications than I ever thought imaginable, I decided to retire from Model Photography and go into more challenging photography.

Towards the end of Lockdown, Norwich based bend Hook contacted me and asked me if I would do the artwork for their debut album, for which I accepted and used live performance photos as well as images from a shoot.  Since then I have done the artwork for their second album as well.  One of the highlights of gig photography was when London Based Metalcore Band “Beneath The Embers, used one of my photos from their gig at the Brickmakers in Norwich as the centre page spread in their debut CD.

Speaking of the Brickmakers, I have had the honour of shooting over 100 bands there, including international artists such as Huranova from Italy and Royal South from Tennessee, and bands from different parts of the UK such as saints Among Us, Second Cities & Lesbian Bed Death, as well as countless other bands from Norwich and from around East Anglia.

Aside from gig photography, I have also done volunteer photography for some Rugby clubs and Wrestling events., I also love to visit nature reserves for wildlife photography.  With all things Photographic, with great glass comes great expense, yet is as much fun as you can have while keeping your clothes on.

Another thing I love to do is travel and over the years I have been lucky enough to go to Tenerife, Turkey, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Italy, plus further afield to Austin Texas and  trips to Sydney & Brisbaine.  The major of these trips were unfortunately when I didn’t even have a compact camera to take with mr, let alone the kit I have got now.

I am a music lover and as a Londoner in my mid teens, I was a regular to the Island in Ilford as well as various bars in Camden Town.  This was the era which for me into the Rock scene with bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Offspring, Faith No More etc. While I mainly listen to Rock & Metal, especially Symphonic Metal like within Temptation & Evanescence, I did grow up in the 80s and do have more cheese than Stilton, but plenty of guilty pleasures in my music library, and have got back into vinyl in recent years.  I also do dabble in Karaoke (badly) from time to time

Bands / Artists I have seen live include:

Blur

Bon Jovi

Terrorvision

Bowling for soup

Natalie Imbruglia

Space

Catalonia

Madness

Top albums:

Terrorvision - How to make friends and influence people

Nirvana - Nevermind

The Offspring -Smash

Soundgarden - Superunknown

Pearl Jam - Ten

No matter the hours spent editing, I am always eager for the next experience and thrill of live music.
