TTSSFU shares latest cut ‘Studio 54’ - EP out 23rd February

Manchester’s TTSSFU shares new single
‘Studio 54’

Taken from the upcoming EP - ‘Me, Jed and Andy’ out 23rd February on Fear of Missing Out Records

Jed Johnson, Andy Warhol and their complicated love story are the inspiration four decades later for Manchester-based DIY/bedroom shoegazer Tasmin Stephens AKA TTSSFU. Stephens had reached a creative dead-end of sorts. “Drained” by an (now-abandoned) album project that was dragging on and losing its relevance, Andy Warhol presented a creative revelation.

Though this EP acts as a vessel to contextualise the anger, failure and disappointment of their own relationships, ‘Studio 54’ is explicitly biographical - regarding Warhol’s speed-fueled debaucheries at the famous nightclub, as Tas explains:

“Studio 54 is about how Andy got swept up with the New York party scene and how it eventually pushed Jed away. Andy let Jed down many times, the drugs made him uncomfortable, and Andy seemed to care more about partying and hanging out with his famous friends. Jed eventually had enough and left him for someone else which ultimately broke him.

The story resonated with me because sometimes I don’t recognise what I’ve got when I’ve got it and take things for granted”

While growing in confidence with home-recording following years of trial and error (it’s impressive to learn that the disarming polish of ‘Me, Jed and Andy’ was produced, mixed and mastered, entirely by Stephens), that shy elusiveness, those dreamy, whirling soundscapes and understated lyrics still remain central to TTSSFU’s alluring mystique - a voice as passionate and noble as that of any high-flying New York socialite.
