The Range, Vermont-based producer James Hinton, announces the Mercury Remixes EP, a collection of remixes of standout tracks from his 2022 album Mercury.
Out today, Mercury Remixes features a club-friendly rework of “1995” by Coby Sey, an atmospheric breakbeat-driven remix of “Violet” by DJ Python and a new mix of “Ricercar” by Hinton himself. Also included are the previously released “Bicameral (Tourist Remix)” and “Bicameral (Guedra Guedra Remix).”
Hinton says of the new remixes, "I'm excited for you to hear these new remixes from Mercury by DJ Python and Coby Sey. Coby Sey has made a footwork-inspired club look at “1995” that lets you experience the original elements in a new order that explodes the original version. The DJ Python remix of “Violet” is a total reimagining that focuses on the emotional core lyrical phrase in a new pace that I think places emphasis on reverie over the rigor of the original."

Praise for Mercury:
“Serene, uplifting and Moby-esque.” - MOJO
“Another six-year gap, and another album that justifies the wait.” – Metro
“Hinton cranks his knack for melody to new euphoric heights…he delivers eyes-closed, melancholic bliss.” – Clash
“‘Bicameral’ sends an exhilarated tornado of breakbeats and pristine, bittersweet melodies to blow away all the clouds and leave only the dancefloor remaining." – The Fader
"His songs tug at heartstrings all the same, and in a cultural landscape where ‘Does this make you feel something?’ is now the predominant question, Mercury is sure to prompt a resounding yes." – Pitchfork
"The music is as effervescent as ever." - MTV
Mercury is moody, transportive, and undeniably rave-infused, and although it is indebted to IDM mainstays like Aphex Twin and grime pioneers like Skepta, the album finds Hinton pushing himself outside the constraints of any one specific genre. The result is both maximalist and restrained, huge soft synths up against cruising beats to offset the compressed vocals of his carefully chosen clips.
