A Stone’s Throw Festival has today announced The Horrors as an opening party headliner for 2025’s edition, with the band set to play The Exchange 1856, North Shields on Friday May 23rd. Tickets on sale now.
Also announced is a free entry preview - delivered by Generator North East, which gives locals a chance to catch some brilliant emerging artists free of charge. This takes place at The Engine Room on Saturday May 24th.
After nearly 20 years making music, there are few bands who’ve created a canon as determinedly innovative and consistently critically-acclaimed as The Horrors. Emerging as zeitgeist-shaking garage-goths on their 2007 debut ‘Strange House’, before taking a sharp left turn for their Mercury-nominated follow up ‘Primary Colours’, since the beginning they’ve roamed freely between genres.
Their set takes place ahead of Saturday’s opening night featuring local legends Lanterns On The Lake - with the full multi-venue festival taking over North Shields on Bank Holiday Sunday May 25th.
Headlined by post-punk powerhouses Shame, Sunday May 25th’s multi-venue lineup is set to feature also Bristol alt-folk riser Katy J Pearson, Australian psych-fuzz favourites Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, thrilling rockers Man/Woman/Chainsaw and indie stalwarts Swim Deep, and newly added art-rockers DEADLETTER, alongside a host of the North East’s finest talent.
Debuting in 2022, A Stone’s Throw’s first two events have featured 100+ artists, swarming Newcastle's coastline and forming the first North East coastal music trail between Tynemouth and North Shields, with the likes of Sundara Karma, Sam Tompkins, Pip Blom, Berwyn, Lauren Hibberd and Heidi Curtis all on the bill. Transforming coffee shops, event warehouses, CBD dispensaries, and working men's clubs into fully fledged music venues for the day, the festival also collaborated with Go North East and North Tyneside Council to provide an open top double decker bus service, transporting wristband holders from venue to venue, whilst live brass bands performed on the upper deck.
Now taking place solely in North Shields, A Stone’s Throw will be run in association with the council-led scheme NS 800 (a year-long calendar of exciting events that celebrates North Shields past, present and future), as part of the town’s 800th year celebrations. The Go North East bus service will once again be included in the ticket price, and will run an even quicker service between the 5 participating venues The Exchange 1856, King Street Social Club, Salt Market Social, Three Tanners Bank and The Engine Room, ensuring the festival is primed to provide another refreshing, unique and memorable music festival experience.
Speaking on the latest opening party announcement and free preview showcase, founder Anthony Thompson (Notion Live Events) stated: “The response to this year's A Stone's Throw has been phenomenal! So much so, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to add a Friday opening ft. legendary goth-indie band The Horrors! On top of this, we're working closely with Generator North East to provide a FREE ENTRY preview on the Saturday featuring an array of excellent local artists. We aim for the event to be accessible to its community and although it's not viable to make the entire weekend free, we hope this offers an option for those who want to soak up the A Stone's Throw atmosphere free of charge. A Stone's Throw will continue to build and we can't wait to deliver an exciting event in North Tyneside this late May Bank Holiday.”
Performing at this year’s third edition will be Shame, Katy J Pearson, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Man/Woman/Chainsaw, Swim Deep, Brògeal, ERNIE, Home Counties, Pit Pony, DEADLETTER, Lizzie Esau, Amelia Coburn, Callinsick, Cortney Dixon, False Heads, Humour, Jordan Langley, Josh Webb, Look Terrified, Make Friends, Pearly Gates, Projector, Samxemma, Scustin, Slate, Skinner, Stannington, Sun King, The Manatees, Tight Collar, White Flowers, Balancing Act, Cherry Blur, Cosmorat, Ellur, Jasper Hodges, Porcelain, Punchbag, Robyn McLeod, Tapwaterlucy, TV Death, Weston Looney, Ben Harwood, Citrus, Isabel Maria, Katie Grace, Swindled , Zak Younger Banks, and more.
