Our favourite outsiders in German punk duo The Deadnotes have revealed a live session video for their new single ‘Dog Years’, which out now on all good streaming services.

The track is the latest to be taken from their new EP Forever Outsider, which is out now on 22Lives Records, following on from previously-released singles ‘Downward Spiral’, ‘Forever Outsider’, and ‘A Glade Inside The Vines’.

Commenting on the song, Darius Lohmüller (vocals & guitar) says: “The song serves as a 'motivation' to overthink less and be more present in the moment, to live in the now. It explores the struggle of failing at seemingly 'simple' tasks and having difficulties making decisions.”

“I'm used to living a lot in my head, sometimes writing entire songs in there. Either my mind is constantly thinking, working things out, reflecting, and overthinking, or it feels very numb in contrast. Rarely do I feel able to fully embrace and absorb a moment, to be present in the here and now. This feeling leads to a sense of rarely feeling connected and ultimately fits into my and our outsider role as a band.”

Hot on the heels of a run of UK co-headline tour dates with Watford anarcho-punks Nervus earlier this year, The Deadnotes recently announced their own August/September 2023 UK headline tour dates with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).

"We worked, wrote, arranged and produced so much to finish these songs, more than on any other release before, without much questioning and overthinking,” says Jakob Walheim, who completes the duo with Darius Lohmüller (vocals & guitar). “Is this really us? Will it be heard by our musical contemporaries and fans? Is there a break referring to our previous history? We deliberately didn’t think about these questions. We wanted to do exactly what felt right in the moment and create our own space as outsiders. For us, this EP is like the first release with a completely new band."

A punk record featuring a children's choir, a string quartet, brass, saxophone and more—with the complexity of the arrangements and instrumentation on Forever Outsider, The Deadnotes boldly go beyond the boundaries of both the indie and the pop world. In doing so, they let themselves be guided by their intuition. The result: a liveliness and authenticity that they have fought tooth and nail for. Not only lyrically, but also sonically, the pair show that when opposites meet and come together, something truly special can happen.

The EP will be released on vinyl and is available in a bundle with a t-shirt and tour ticket, and the European OUTSIDERS UNITE! Tour 2023 also sees the duo grace Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria this September.
