FEBRUARY 6 - London indie risers Terra Twin release their second EP Static Separation today via Dance To The Radio ahead of their biggest tour to date, taking in France and the UK, including a headliner at London’s Omeara.
Once again partnering with revered Grammy nominated producer James Dring (Gorillaz, Self Esteem, Sorry, Jamie T) for the Static Separation EP, Terra Twin fall in line with a vanguard of young bands like Wunderhorse, Divorce and Prima Queen in Americana tinged story-telling-led sound.
Speaking to NME last year, vocalist Maxim Baldry gave consideration to evolving their sound: “We’re still keeping true to our Americana and country influences, but we wanted to make it muscular, loud and a bit more trashy.”
This is evidenced in the four interlocking tracks which make up the EP. Each fits with the others, whilst showcasing a different side of the band’s harnessing of the guitar music canon. Opener ‘Static Separation’ introduces the concept, and closer ‘No Ghost!’ descends into fuzzy satisfaction - but it’s the one-two punch of ‘The Recogniser’ and ‘Crooked’ at the heart of the track-listing that carry the emotional identity of the collection.
Further on the EP, the band say:
“‘Static Separation’ is an endless cycle at 40 degrees. It’s about not being able to let go of your rolls of white fabric that have been stained with shiny bits of shell and green moss. Sensations so visceral that you cry from your chest but when the sun lights up your room, the train starts pulling away and with every salute, march and farewell you feel the world changing before your eyes.”
Music is one half of Maxim’s twin artistic passions, completed by his acting career. He is part of the main cast for Amazon’s mega-budget Lord Of The Rings adaptation The Rings Of Power - season 2 of which is recently underway.
ABOUT TERRA TWIN
Fast rising London outfit Terra Twin craft nostalgic Americana-tinged indie juxtaposed with a defiantly British perspective.
They have been developing quite the reputation across the indie scene with their early live shows and debut EP release - January 2024’s Head Leaking. This has lead to support slots for acts including L’objectif and HighSchool, as well as debut festival appearances at the likes of Left Of The Dial, Sound City, The Great Escape, Live At Leeds and more.
Starting out as a bedroom project back in 2020 whilst frontman Maxim Baldry was living in New Zealand, the band have already been championed by key tastemakers Rolling Stone UK, Clash, DIY, DORK, The Line Of Best Fit and NME with BBC Radio 1, 6Music and Radio X plays via Jess Iszatt, Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy.
