South Carolina’s Taylor McCall will be making his UK debut this November as a special guest on Robert Plant’s Saving Grace featuring Suzi Dian tour.

McCall says, “To have my first international tour to be opening up for an actual legend, in Robert Plant, is a dream come true. The venues we’re playing are absolutely historic and beautiful and I can’t wait to make my own history in them with Robert.”

The hugely talented singer, songwriter and musician will be performing songs from his debut EPs, which will feature on a CD entitled Taylor McCall (out October 13th and available to pre-order here), and his acclaimed debut album Black Powder Soul, which is out now via Thirty Tigers.

The album features the singles ‘Red Handed’, ‘So Damn Lucky’ and ‘Highway Will’, of which Rolling Stone praised, “a brooding debut…spooky percussion and a vocal rumble reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s version of ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’.”

McCall’s first memory of music comes from his grandfather’s guitar that was stashed under the bed. “The smell of its age I can still remember to this day.” Appropriately, it’s his grandfather’s voice that opens Taylor’s striking debut album, Black Powder Soul. Crooning an old slave gospel, it is not just an homage to his late grandfather, but a foreshadowing of what’s to come.

Black Powder Soul is the product of a winding musical journey for McCall that began at age seven when he received his first guitar. In the years since, the South Carolina native and avid outdoorsman and fisherman has formed his own sense of unique musicianship—incorporating self-taught styles that fit each song rather than following conventional techniques. With Black Power Soul’s 14 tracks, including a special prologue featuring the voice of his late grandfather, McCall explores the balance of good and evil, destruction and healing and the importance of having faith in the darkest of times.

McCall has built a strong grassroots fanbase since discovering his voice in his late teens and at age 17, the songs that he put together for his debut EPs were testament to his talent as both musician and songwriter: with ‘Jericho Rose’, ‘Quartermaster’, ‘Waccamaw Drive’, ‘The Devil Wants To Dance Again’, being captivating tracks garnering his 26 million plays to date.

For his UK debut, Taylor is releasing an introductory CD featuring a taster of his songwriting that is lead by the sublimely compelling ‘Jericho Rose’ – to order please purchase here.

With a voice that is disarming yet rousing and a soulful world-weariness and authenticity that transcends his deeply textured songs, Taylor McCall’s UK debut is certainly not to be missed.
