Guild Theory announces the release of their debut album: ‘Streaks of Light Burn the Sky’. The self-produced 12-track alt-rock album was released on 5th May through Guild Theory Records and has been entered into the Mercury Prize 2023.

Matt Smith, Guild Theory singer, has high hopes for the album:

“We’re excited to announce the release of our first album together. Written, recorded and produced in 12 months, ‘Streaks of Light Burn the Sky’ demonstrates our artistic range, covering everything from ambient synths to heavy prog-rock. The positive feedback we received after the release encouraged us to apply for the Mercury Prize 2023”.

The Guild Theory duo, Rob Lewis and Matt Smith, met at the start of 2022 and embarked on their ‘one-song-a-month’ mission while both maintaining full time jobs and busy family lives. Rob, Guild Theory’s multi-instrumentalist, writes:

“It was always going to be challenging to complete an album in a year. But once we got into the flow the pace seemed natural and we’re blown away by the end result!”.

The moody opening track ‘Cackled Smile’ is the pair’s first single, with indie rock banger ‘Free from You’ set to be released in May.

The 2023 Mercury Prize album shortlist will be announced in July 2023.
