The unadulterated, down and dirty riffage in State Of You’s new single ‘To The Core’ mirrors the song’s thematic content, which takes a look at what it means to be a “rockstar” in 2025. As vocalist Steve Sitkowski comments, “In this new reality we are living in, the concept of the old rockstar pushing the boundaries of debauched behaviour is no longer coveted. ‘To The Core’ is about someone in a position of power continuing to take what they want without caring about the consequences. True sin will never go away - it’s only in hindsight that someone will look back in regret. In the moment, bad behaviour is a rush and a middle finger to the future. The chorus is about being caught in a cycle of drink and drugs - those extreme highs and lows. There’s nothing as bad as the comedown but that feeling of getting back on it can be all too inviting to resist.  Either way this song is going to level whichever venue we play it in.”

If you or someone you know has been struggling with the issues raised in this song, Music Support is there to help. The organisation is a registered charity that helps anyone who works in the UK music industry experiencing substance use, addiction and/or mental health challenges.

‘To The Core’ will appear on State Of You’s forthcoming ‘On A Knife’s Edge’ EP, which is set for release 24th Jan 2025 via Silent Cult. The collection also includes the recently released ‘Two of a Kind’, which captures the sheer rage and inner turmoil that can result from a relationship breaking down and appeared in the Kerrang! Chart. The music video for the EP’s lead single ‘Under The Wire’, a track addressing Sitkowski facing emotions head-on following a later life ADHD diagnosis, topped 15,000 views in under two months, has been spun on BBC Radio 1 Rock Introducing and Kerrang! Radio Fresh Blood, and was described by Metal Hammer as “Bursting with piss and vinegar”.

State Of You began their infiltration of the UK underground in 2022 with the release of their debut EP, cultivating their very own brand of heavy music which splices hardcore stylings with a vibrant sense of rock ‘n roll. The members of State Of You have a shared goal of expelling personal demons and provoking discussion around issues in the world today. Their number features members of much-loved underground UK bands including Outcry Collective, Polar and Hildamay, with their instant chemistry apparent as soon as the five of them first convened in a practice space. Inspired by such artists as Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, The Bronx, Beartooth and Underoath, State Of You craft lay their tracks down with Oz Craggs, of UK underground heroes Feed The Rhino, who has worked on production duties for all their material to date.

Having toured with Young Guns and played a handful of their own shows already, State Of You have announced a special EP release party at The Black Heart in London on 25th January 2025. Tickets on sale now.
