May 2023 Brighton Alt Escape Show Announced

Brighton noise rock trio STAFF PARTY are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Leech’—the final track to be taken from their debut EP Dread, which is out now on all good streaming platforms.

Pointed and vitriolic EP closing track ‘Leech’ is a fitting punctuation mark for the band’s first release proper, with its sense of visceral unease and tension. Although not specifically referenced in the song, Lamb wrote the lyrics for the song around the time of the tragic murder of Sarah Everard at the hands of a Met Police officer, and the unlawful actions of the police during the subsequent protests and vigils.

“This song was me venting frustration at awful people, like Everard's killer, corrupt police, and anyone who abuses their standing or power for their own selfish means,” says frontman Ed Lamb. “It's also aimed at toxic people who will attempt to manipulate or anger you to become the centre of attention, and leech off your happiness. I don't have time for people like that in my life.”

The track follows on from pounding lead single ‘Ego Death’ and follow up title track ‘Dread’ which were both released earlier this year—blistering introductions to the three piece’s sound which picked up support from The Punk Site, Scene Point Blank, and Maximum Volume.

Radio support ramped up nicely with the band picked as Kerrang! Radio’s Fresh Blood Featured Artist Of The Week, as well as landing on the Planet Rock New Rock Playlist and support from Primal Scream’s Simone Butler on Soho Radio, Total Rock, Primordial Radio and more.

Formed in Brighton in early 2020 by Ed Lamb (Guitar/Vocals), and JP Townsend (Drums), later joined by Chazz Welfare (Bass), STAFF PARTY play their own brand of finely calibrated, frenetic, and loud as hell noise rock. Expect thick walls of noisy guitar; tense, throat shredding vocals; pounding, virtuosic drums; and muscular, powerful bass.

The band’s debut EP, Dread, was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Paul 'Win' Winstanley at Brighton Electric, with additional tracking at Winstanley’s studio.

Potentially one of Brighton's loudest live bands—if they get their way—Staff Party's songwriting is as much inspired by 90s/00s noise rock and post hardcore acts such as Shellac, Melvins, The Jesus Lizard, At-The-Drive-In, and Unsane, as it is by grunge and alternative rock titans Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr, and Stone Temple Pilots.

Most recently supporting USA NAILS, New Pagans, and OHHMS, when it comes to the band’s future touring plans, Lamb is keen to get out there on the road and meet “the incredible people working in the important grassroots independent venues across the UK,” he says.

Still crafting their identity as a live band, something he finds incredibly important is volume. “It's no coincidence to me that the most memorable gigs I've had have probably been the loudest. It brings a new dimension to our songs and makes them so much more visceral when they are played at a bone rattling volume, creating not just an audible, but a physical experience, which I would love more people to feel,” says Lamb. “I need to feel my body shake to enjoy what I'm doing and not drift away.”
