SINGLE REVIEW: Zachary Mason - I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…
The first thing that rang a bell in my mind was the vocals, the twang had that Bowie effect, I love that the chorus has a laid back feel whereas the verses snap back to this tighter effect.
Soothing thrumming basslines and crystal clean rhythm guitars are providing the foundation to this indie rock track, solidified by those uniformed drum beats, anchoring everything together.
The subtle chord changes, and the experimental soloing however, seemingly simple ascending and descending scales with a mix of mimicry to the melody, makes it quite loveable.
The Lyrics are very thought provoking, and is an introvert’s home and anthem I believe. It also has quite a childlike wording to it “ I wish humans were made in a factory” feels like an odd but also strangely philosophical statement. As humans we are emotional and messy and if we were made in a factory, would we be perfect?
“Bitter glances, angry eyes, messed up minds and messed up lives” is a very true observation amongst people in life, whether we have messed up backgrounds or we intend to hurt and mess up those around us. The use of double “messed up” scratches an itch in my brain.
The main theme of the song is the pressures of homelife and family structure and roles. It’s how the dream of love and family is suddenly crashed under the realities of life and conflicts. That maybe that being manufactured instead of conceived may give people a better shot at life avoiding all those tensions.
Zachary Mason is playful and unusual, however, is cooking up some masterpieces in his own unique style inspired by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Mac De Marco and The Beatles.
I quite like that I have taken quite a lot away from this track and I must agree too, I wish Humans Were Made In A Factory.
