SINGLE REVIEW: TUBE AMP’D - Twisted Mania (Live)
Rock band and supertrio from San Diego leaving a large impression in California and now word is getting out to us overseas of their alt rock, punk and grunge infused live album, Live From The Sunset Strip. Amy has put in good words about this boisterous group that make for great energy and a show and it’s time I put a spin on things.
Twisted Mania is a haughty earworm, opening with an repetitive electric one-liner guitar riff following dirty parallels on bass, tied together by erratic and strong percussion. This track sways in a much more simplified formula, leaning more punk and garage rock and grunge compared to the likes of the classic rock, blues and funk direction of the other tracks. The vocals are tight and lyrics are short, however the chorus picks up a storm.
I interpret this track as a back and forth between two opposing sides, perhaps one of them is projecting or perhaps both parties are just as crazy.
I can see this would be quite a whirlwind of a track live, forcing a great wall of noise towards the audience. The Recording is quite raw, and clear however a little unbalanced, weighing heavy on the vocals and dipping low on the guitar, but you can’t complain at a DIY.
With decades of rich experience and professional musicianship behind them, Tube Amp’d have the potential to go big. I hope a cleaner re-release of this album is on the horizon, but I like what they got going already, it really encapsulates the realness of the band.
