SINGLE REVIEW: The Serenity Club - Wrapped Around You
The Serenity Club is a North London 3 piece composed of school friends Raman Singh on vocals/guitars, Mit Inajar on bass and Kris Rich on drums. The band outfits a classic 90’s Seattle sound, grounded by an contemporary alt-rock foundation infused with poppy undertones and galvanizing choruses.
I congratulate the band on their previous single “Heaven Is A World Without You” reaching over 4k streams on Spotify and the regular radio airplay. Not only that but also securing a live slot performance at Camden Rocks Festival this weekend.
Now, as soon as I pressed play on this single, I have been so excited to share my thoughts so let’s take a dive into “Wrapped Around You”.
The opening is so warm and gentle and bright which of course, initially confused me to how this is a supposed grunge/ sub pop sound.
The email told me that the opening had been inspired by Sunday by Sonic youth of which upon comparing, strikes similarities. I kept the sense that this was perhaps an indie track, that was until the song kicked it up a notch in the first chorus. A complete trickery of the ear!
Wrapped Around You becomes a totally different vibe, going from this folk gentleness to breaking out into a sonically vibrant, alt-grunge track that holds brash anthemic choruses that I can't get out of my mind! A beautiful earworm with an edge!
I have a lot of favourite elements within this track. Starting from how the bright, almost-acoustic guitar and sonorous bass complement each other and how the chimes of a secondary glittery guitar decorates this conversation.
I love the chorus rhythm section. There's something really satisfying about the drive in the song writing, little licks that hint at the individual personalities of the instruments whilst remaining tight as a unit. Finally, the break-up and fix-up of the uplifting dynamic bridge section complete with colorful lead and solo playing, giving that breathing room and height to the track.
Overall, it gives this impression of a journey, slow and beautiful at first then crashes into excitement and awe with a sprinkle of romance. I had this track on repeat so many times to tear it apart, my ears never got tired of it.
I’m really rooting for a successful launch of The Serenity Clubs upcoming EP Obsession Submission later in the year and I hope I get to get my hands on it for another review!
