SINGLE REVIEW: Reliquia - Shallow

Reliquia, a new Manchester-based quintet, brings a haunting yet electrifying sound with their debut single 'Shallow.' The track kicks off with an atmospheric, ambient intro before diving into a blast of electrifying guitars that cut through the dense, gothic atmosphere. From the start, there's an eerie aura to the sound, as if the band has tapped into something both otherworldly and deeply introspective.

The vocals add to the unsettling energy, with a gravelly rasp that feels both melodic and nervous, injecting a palpable sense of tension. When the chorus hits, it’s powerful, almost cathartic, adding another layer to the track's emotional depth. Reliquia expertly blends the bleak, icy atmosphere of goth rock with the heavier, more intense sounds of doom metal, while also weaving in the immersive soundscapes of post-rock. The result is a multifaceted composition that is rich in textures, engulfing the listener in its dark, pensive energy.

Throughout the track, the drums carve out a deliberate path, supporting the powerful sweep of the guitars and driving the track forward with precision. The blend of genres—gothic, doom, and post-rock—creates a rich, multifaceted soundscape that feels both harrowing and absorbing. 'Shallow' delivers a somber, introspective journey that’s sure to resonate with fans of dark, atmospheric music.
