SINGLE REVIEW: i said yes - People You Love

Born in the West of the UK i said yes are now spread between Cornwall, London, Nottingham and Minneapolis. They come together every year or so to record emerging with 3 or 4 glowing pop tunes.

Latest single, their first since March 2022, 'People You Love’ is a stunning, melodic pop meets folk, toe tapping sunshine anthem.

Up-tempo and catchy 'People You Love' sparkles with uplifting, hooky guitars and relaxed drums. The vocals are smooth and heartwarming while the harmonies are enchanting. Twinkling with mesmerising beauty 'People You Love' is easy on the ear and highly addictive.

The lyrics share the idea of the sun setting on a relationship "the sun set over you last night" and the thought that hopefully the people who love us are the ones we love in return, which so often isn't the case.

The spoken, voicemail inspired interlude is an interesting addition and while not always easy to make out the line "maybe you can erase the problem by acknowledging it, but if it was easy as that everyone would do it" stood out and feels particularly poignant - the segment appears to be ranting at the collapsing relationship.

'People You Love' is a positive sound, conveying not so positive themes. It's a joyous bust of sun laced rhythm. A total earworm that's sure to have you captivated.
