SINGLE REVIEW: House of Light - NYC & Still Life
NYC
I like the dark theatrics and danceable groove. The use of synths works well to create a dreamy soundscape for the grand, dramatic vocals and electrifying guitars. It's a good blend of indie shimmer and art rock exaggeration, gritty but with mainstream accessibility.
Still Life
This one is much more harrowing, with shoegaze qualities but still the same bold vocals that haunt above the simmering dreamscape backdrop. It's a very emotional listen, it works well channelling authentic pain and longing against a sincere purity and innocence. The gentle but magnificent, jagged guitars elevate 'Still Life' high above itself. While the introduction of the more jangle laced section make it catchy and infectious
I really like the drama in House of Lights' sound. There's clearly a lot of thought put into how they can create an intricate web of feelings while blending genres and adding levels of dynamics to make them stand out from the crowd. A versatile listen for those unafraid to push their own boundaries.
