SINGLE REVIEW: Ghost - Satanized
In preparation for the highly anticipated Skeletá album due to release 25th April, Ghost has bestowed the gift of Satanized along with the music video for it’s eager and loyal fans.
For almost 13 days I have nonstop listened to and indulged and devour all the content that Ghost has to offer. I needed to get my thoughts out there about it all.
Satanized, musically, is an extension to IMPERA but with a shout out to Infestissumam, opening with a light hearted riff and systemic gallop on bass, supported with punchy drums, locking- into its operation, and those soaring iconic vocals start up the story of possession and conflicting belief with a sprinkle of latin lyrics to really play up those satanic stereotypes.
From what I’ve seen from bands this year, there is a trend of having their character almost give up their belief or doubt it and from here we can see it in the lyrics “I should have known not to give in” I feel this new album is going to go through drastic development, we fans, have never seen before.
I love that the music video also coincides with the lyrics, demonstrating what seems to be a Christian monk in confessional that he is in doubt of his belief. The black and white stylistic choice really gives it that older vintage horror movie vibe and doubles down on this as it moves through the storyboard to exorcism.
Ending with a riveting reveal of Papa V Perpetua at the end of the track adorned in a royal purple along with the potential of what our favourite Nameless Ghouls and Ghoulettes may appear, I feel the new persona may be more stern than our beloved Copia that we have grown used to his clumsy shenanigans, it really paves the way for a new Era for Ghost. Even the new mask Perpetua wears has so much information to unpack being half-masked and revealing the underneath, but I won't stray down that rabbit hole.
The Overall Single sticks to Ghosts formula of wit and singable pop choruses but also sustaining the mystery and ‘badassery’ that all Ghost fans adore. This track really has the power to possess you with every press of play, I am obsessed.
