SINGLE REVIEW: Electric Avenue – My Home

Electric Avenue, a five-piece rock band from Sydney, Australia, returns with their new single, ‘My Home’, following a year-long hiatus. The song’s narrative draws from the band's reflections on identity and belonging. Inspired by a post-pandemic visit to Glasgow, Scotland, one of the band members wrote the lyrics while grappling with feelings of nostalgia and the disconnection from his homeland after years away. Guitarist Phil O’Prey further channels his Scottish heritage in crafting the accompanying music.

The track opens with an ambient intro featuring delicate guitar slides, setting a haunting tone. Raw, husky vocals emerge, complemented by harmonies that evoke a barbershop quality, creating an intimate atmosphere. As the song progresses, it ramps up into a vibrant sound filled with catchy riffs and an addictive melody, with guitar bursts adding rich textures.

The vocals exude warmth and a subtle country twang, while the harmonies take on a more rugged nature, capturing a glorious alt-rock essence infused with a sense of melancholy. The outro gently transitions back to the simplicity of the introduction, offering a reflective close to this captivating journey of sound. ‘My Home’ is a poignant return for Electric Avenue, blending emotional depth with vibrant musicality.
