SINGLE REVIEW: BEASTS - The shearing
Antoine Romeo, previously a member of run SOFA, has just launched his first solo project BEASTS. The Belgian- Based artist who grew up in the Post-industrial city of Charleroi.
BEATS independently released their most recent single, The Shearing, with a music video. The Shearing is paving the way for the 7 Track album that can be purchased directly from Beasts avoiding major platforms with respect of artistic integrity. It is with the strong belief of Beasts, seen in their manifesto, that major corporations no longer intervene.
Although strongly Politicized views, Beasts are anti-faccist, a safe place to face traumas and respect for others.
Upon unfolding The Shearing music video I am met with a very cryptic black and white video of a man hiking through the countryside with flickers of distortion and interference, the music itself open with vocals and chanting before slowly drifting into noise and deep thunderous bass riffs and once more rhythmic vocalisations. The drums are chaotic. And is something I can call organised chaos overall.
Although very vicious, my perspective of the lyrics is quite simple- the meaning behind it is to stop following orders from those before you. Whether they tell you to be someone else or perhaps their way is outdated. “ Drop your mask” is to be yourself. “ to “poorly advised from a young age”.
The track is brutal. The video was shocking. It takes a listener with guts to find the true philosophy.
