Dublin post-funk quartet SCUSTIN are delighted to announce that their debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker will be released on 19th September 2025.
To celebrate the news, the band will release lead single ‘The Ick (Don't Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)’ on 5th March 2025, just in time for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations at their London headline show on 17th March 2025 at The Dublin Castle, Camden.
Recorded and produced by Richie Kennedy (The Murder Capital, RIDE, Interpol, Shame) at Black Mountain Studios, forthcoming debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker is a modern Irish concept record that tells the story of Larry, a barman in his mid-to-late 20s struggling to find his way amidst the social and economic uncertainties of modern Irish life.
Bracing lead single ‘The Ick’ is a tongue-in-cheek satire of the post-punk genre, embracing its recent resurgence and drawing on influences from early Viagra Boys, Idles, and Irish bands such as Gurriers and The Scratch.
Commenting on the single, the band said: “Lyrically, the track addresses the sacrilegious attempts to taint Ireland's most sacred beverage—Guinness—and draws a line between those who attempt such absurdities and those who don’t. The global phenomenon of “The Ick” serves as a fitting metaphor, delivering the message with a sharp edge of satire, and highlighting how trivial annoyances can become outlets for frustration in a world full of more significant issues.”
The track follows on from previously-released album track ‘Charmer’, which the band teased late last year, before rounding up their 2024 with a run of Irish headline tour dates. On ‘Charmer’ the band dove headfirst into their funk and disco roots, giving an artistic nod to the likes of Luther Vandross, Republic of Loose, Michael Jackson, and early Daft Punk. Perhaps the cherry on top is the undeniable backing vocal performance of Sadhbh O’Brien, a longtime friend of the band, who brings a sense of grandeur to proceedings.
More than just a band, Scustin blurs the lines between crowd and artist. When you step into a Scustin show, you don’t just watch the band—you become part of it. Scustin is a state of mind, a shared love for all things craic. To be "Scustin" is to belong to a group united by this love, where every show is a celebration of connection, culture, and pure, unfiltered fun.
With scintillating performances across Ireland, the UK, and the Netherlands, as well as standout festival appearances at Electric Picnic, Latitude, and Other Voices, Scustin have earned a reputation for high-energy, interactive live shows. Their performances are an electrifying mix—imagine a panto on crack or a Guinness-stained, musical orgy featuring Blindboy, Mike Skinner, and Jamiroquai at The Harbour Bar in Bray.
Through their beloved pastime of "Pub Talkin’", Scustin invite the audience to join them at the table, pint in hand, for a night of storytelling, shenanigans and ‘the craic’ that might echo the vibe of your most revered pub. Scustin leave audiences with no choice but to dance, sing along, and become part of the community they create at every show.
The band have several live dates on sale now, including an appearance at Dublin’s annual Trinity Ball alongside Confidence Man, and an appearance at A Stone’s Throw Music Festival.
