R.T.P. to release “Cycle of Twentythree Psychotropic” via NRT-Records on 29 December 2023

With their third full-length album, R.T.P. (formerly known as RT-Projekt) consistently take the next step: Delivering 13 new tracks with sophisticated pop-rock, intelligent song structures, and modern, timeless arrangements that are sure to catch the ear. The duo's proven trademarks – including Oliver Zangl's intricate guitar work and alternating vocalists – have been expanded further. Alongside Stephanie Bauer, Dani Fuchs, Oliver Kobl, and Matthias “Wauxl” Pfaller, "Psychotropic" also features Stefanie Baringer, Michael Lex, and Markus Engelstädter on the microphone. The ease with which mastermind Rainer Thanner imparts his signature style to each song while giving it a unique flavor is impressive. A strength lies in the multi-layered structure of the songs: often, several tonal colors interplay – Thanner utilizes a range from piano and strings to pure synthesizer sounds, without ever sounding synthetic. The musical range spans from ballads and cheerful mid-tempo numbers to pounding progressive hard rock.
Thematically, the "Cycle of twentythree" is also cutting-edge. The lyrics (by Frank de Blijen) address the machinations in politics and economics ("Puppeteers"), our environment ("Our World"), the spring season ("Springtime"), and the eternally youthful theme of love in its many facets, from love songs ("Three Wishes, Decide on Love") to "toxic love." And with "Longing for a Long Drink," there's even a track for celebration. The title track, "Psychotropic," is an anthem to music and its effect on our soul: The drug that acts as a psychotropic, quickly and without side effects, making life easier.
About R.T.P.
R.T.P. originated in 1995 when the producer and professional musician Rainer Thanner released the debut album "Nothing But Numbers," the first full-length work under the name RT-Projekt. Thanner, active since the 80s in various bands and also composing for the TV station N-TV, followed up in 1999 with the release of the first album in a forthcoming series: "Cycle Of Ninety."
In 2020, another album from the RT-Projekt, "Cycle Of Twenty," was created. Following this, songwriter Frank de Blijen joined the project, complementing the musical creativity of mastermind Rainer Thanner with a broad spectrum of lyrical art. From this collaboration emerged the album "Cycle of Twentyone – The Collaboration," which was released in 2021.
The core team of R.T.P. includes renowned singers such as Oliver Kobl, Matthias “Wauxl” Pfaller, Stephanie Bauer, and Steffi Baringer. They not only give the songs an authentic voice but also ensure diversity in the various productions.
With the 2021 release of the mini-album "Cycle Of Itheria," RT-Projekt presented a kind of space opera blending rock and electro. This concept work impresses with its customary musical versatility and quality, and a self-contained science fiction story about the extraterrestrial Itherians. The voices of Oliver Kobl and Steffi Bauer added a dimension of fantastic storytelling to the already impressive song material. In the same year, RT-Projekt received awards in several categories from the German Rock & Pop Prize.
Musically ambitious, perfectionistic, and versatile, R.T.P. never lose sight of the music. This impressed the Baden-based independent label NRT-Records. NRT signed the band, which has since operated under the shortened name R.T.P. Their collaboration began with the release of the video single "Not Everything Was Bad" in December 2022, a single that has made a lasting impression.
2022 concluded with more accolades at the 40th German Rock and Pop Prize - “Not Everything Was Bad” won in the category “Best Rock Song,” and “Our World” in the category “Best Pop Song.” Rainer Thanner and Frank de Blijen were especially thrilled about the award for "Cycle of twentythree" in the main category of “Best Rock Album.”
The year 2023 was eventful for R.T.P. In the spring, they released their single "Our World" and continued working on the completion of "Psychotropic," which is now set to be released on December 29 through NRT-Records. Another music video is currently in the works and is scheduled for release in the spring of 2024 – for "Crowtune," another new song.

The ideal opener for the Cycle of Twentythree: An instrumental piece that showcases the musical breadth of R.T.P.. The guitar and synthesizer interact, reminiscent of the 1980s when hard rock rose to prominence and keyboard instruments found their place in metal. It's a composition full of verve and dynamism – rocky and driving. A prime example of how music can tell stories without words. (Already released as a single.)
Not everything was bad (Vocals Markus Engelstädter)
Sadly, we often remember bad experiences more vividly than the days when we were happy. This song seeks to remind us that things were often better than we anticipated. It encourages us to worry less and remain optimistic – things will turn out fine! The upbeat, Queen-influenced rock sound suits this uplifting message. (Already released as a single.)

Springtime (Vocals Stefanie Baringer)
Spring captured in tones. Slowly the world awakens, green takes over from the grey-white of winter, and life reveals itself again in all its vigor. Delicate piano sounds guide us through this journey in time, while the organ adds budding accents, full of hope and a zest for fresh life. A song especially crafted for the time from March to June.
Toxic Love (Vocals Stephanie Bauer, Oli Kobl)
A hard guitar meets hard rhythms, with a structure (and content) reminiscent of Rammstein. However, the addition of soft vocals creates a deliberate counterpoint, generating a unique tension. The duet sings about a toxic relationship where "He" is rough and reckless, and "She" still blindly clings to love.
Puppeteers (Vocals Oli Kobl)
A pleasing and distinctive pop song. On a skillfully woven synthesizer soundscape, rich with colors and a solid rhythmic foundation, playful intermediate tones frequently emerge, with guitar solos adding extra highlights. The song's theme? The puppeteers in business and politics, pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

Take action or let go? Sometimes, everyone needs a little nudge to try something new – and this is the concept behind this duet. While "He" is still hesitant and full of doubts, "She" has already boldly begun. It's a pop-rock song where different layers – doubt, decision-making, optimism, and confidence – harmoniously blend with equally varied synthesizer sounds.
Longing for a long drink (Vocals: Stefanie Baringer)
Bar music at its best, the swing for a weekend night when the mood reaches its peak. Pure joy of life without thoughts of tomorrow. This sound cocktail even makes a cigar taste better.
Three Wishes (Vocals: Stefanie Baringer)
A love song that manages to express "I love you" without actually saying it: When given three wishes, one might quickly think of money, gold, fame, and success. But the three wishes here are: Your heart, your soul, your love! And the beautiful thing is: these already belong to her! This ballad is arranged free from kitsch, with a voice that is as delicate as it is intense. (An alternative version has been released as a single.)

What's this? A vamp who wraps men around her finger, takes advantage of them, and they don't even notice? Why shouldn't such a thing exist today?
Decide on love (Vocals: Dany Fuchs)
Fight? Flee? No – forgive, pardon, and bet on love! A lively pop number, rhythmic, cheerful, and just as optimistic as its message.
Our World (Vocals: Stephanie Bauer)
To conclude, a track with a message: Let's do more together for our world (and environment), there is no Plan(et) B. We managed to eliminate acid rain, so why shouldn't we succeed in the next step too? In this duet, generations converse – Boomers and Gen Y – not to pass judgment, but to collaboratively find solutions. A song that needs to be heard multiple times to discover all the facets within: The two voices guide through the song, but frequently pass the lead: Piano, synthesizer, or guitar take over, all securely built on a differentiated rhythmic foundation.

Mit ihrem dritten Full-Length-Album setzen R.T.P. (früher: RT-Projekt) konsequent den nächsten Schritt: Mit ausgefeiltem Pop-Rock, intelligenten Song-Strukturen und modern-zeitlosen Arrangements liefert das Duo 13 neue Tracks, die ins Ohr gehen. Die bewährten Trademarks – unter anderem mit filigraner Gitarrenarbeit von Oliver Zangl und abwechselnden Gesangsstimmen – wurden noch etwas erweitert: Neben Stephanie Bauer, Dani Fuchs, Oliver Kobl und Matthias „Wauxl“ Pfaller sind auf „Psychotropic“ auch Stefanie Baringer, Michael Lex und Markus Engelstädter am Mikro zu hören. Beeindruckend ist die Leichtigkeit, mit der es Mastermind Rainer Thanner gelingt, jedem Song seine Handschrift und zugleich eine eigene Note zu geben. Eine Stärke liegt im vielschichtigen Aufbau der Songs: Oft sind es mehrere Klangfarben, die sich umspielen – Thanner nutzt die Bandbreite von Piano über Streicher bis zu reinen Synthesizer-Sounds, ohne dabei synthetisch zu klingen. So spannt sich der musikalische Bogen von der Ballade über fröhliche Midtempo-Nummern bis zum stampfenden Hardrock.
Auch inhaltlich zeigt sich der „Cycle of twentythree“ auf der Höhe der Zeit. In den Texten (Frank de Blijen) geht es um die Machenschaften in Politik und Wirtschaft (Puppeteers), um unsere Umwelt (Our world), den Frühling (Springtime) oder um das ewig junge Thema Liebe in seinen vielen Facetten, vom Love-Song (Three wishes, Decide on Love) bis zu „Toxic Love“ – und mit „Longing for a long drink“ ist auch ein Lied zum Feiern dabei. Der Titeltrack „Psychotropic“ ist eine Hymne auf die Musik und ihre Wirkung auf unsere Seele: Die Droge, die uns als Psychopharmakum schnell und ohne Nebenwirkung das Leben leichter macht.

Im selben Jahr erhieltRT-Projektgleich in mehreren Kategorien Auszeichnungen vom deutschen Rock & Pop Preis.
Musikalisch ambitioniert, perfektionistisch und vielseitig, verlieren R.T.P. jedoch nie die Musik aus den Augen. Das überzeugte auch das badische Independent-Label NRT-Records. NRT nahm die Band unter Vertrag, die seitdem unter dem verkürzten Namen R.T.P. agiert. Mit der Veröffentlichung der Videosingle Not Everything Was Bad im Dezember 2022 startet die Zusammenarbeit. Einer Single, mit der sie einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen haben.
2022 endete mit weiteren Auszeichnungen beim 40. Deutschen Rock- und Pop-Preis - „not everything was bad“ in der Kategorie „bester Rocksong“, „our world“ in der Kategorie „bester Pop-Song“. Am meisten freuten sich Thanner und de Blijen über die Auszeichnung für „Cycle of twentythree
in der Hauptkategorie „bestes Rock-Album.“
Das Jahr 2023 war ereignisreich für R.T.P. So veröffentlichten sie im Frühling ihre Single ,,Our World“ und arbeiteten weiter an der Fertigstellung von Psychotropic, welches nun am 29. Dezember über NRT-Records veröffentlicht wird. Ein weiteres Musikvideo entsteht derzeit und wird im Frühjahr 2024 erscheinen – zu „Crowtune“, einem weiteren neuen Song.

Leider erinnern wir uns besser an schlechte Erlebnisse als an die Tage, an denen wir glücklich waren. Dieser Song will uns daran erinnern, dass wir es oft besser hatten (als wir erwartet haben). Macht euch weniger Sorgen und bleibt optimistisch – es wird schon gut werden! Dazu passt der rockige, an Queen angelehnte Sound im Up-Tempo. (Bereits als Single veröffentlicht.)

Der Frühling in Tönen. Langsam erwacht die Welt, das Grün übernimmt vom grau-weiß des Winters, das Leben zeigt sich wieder mit seiner Kraft. Zarte Piano-Klänge führen durch die Zeitreise, die Orgel setzt knospende Akzente, voller Zuversicht und Lust aufs frische Leben. Ein Song, besonders gemacht für die Zeit von März bis Juni.

Eine harte Gitarre trifft auf harte Rhythmen, Aufbau (und Inhalt) erinnern an Rammstein. Doch mit dem weichen Gesang kommt ein bewusst gesetzter Kontrapunkt hinzu, durch den eine ganz eigene Spannung entsteht. Das Duett singt über eine toxische Beziehung, in der „Er“ rüde und rücksichtslos ist und „Sie“ sich trotzdem blind an die Liebe klammert.

Ein Pop-Song, gefällig und eigenständig. Auf dem geschickt gewebten Synthesizer-Klangteppich mit vielen Farben und einem stabilen Rhythmusboden zeigen sich immer wieder verspielte Zwischentöne, Gitarren-Soli setzen zusätzliche Akzente. Worum geht’s? Um die Strippenzieher in Wirtschaft und Politik, die im Hintergrund die Fäden ziehen.

Machen oder lassen? Manchmal braucht jeder einen kleinen Anstoß, um etwas zu versuchen – und so ist dieses Thema als Duett angelegt. Während „Er“ noch unschlüssig und voller Zweifel zögert, hat „Sie“ längst mutig angefangen. Pop-Rock, bei dem sich die unterschiedlichen Ebenen – Zweifel, Entscheidung, Optimismus und Zuversicht – mit ebenso vielen unterschiedlichen Synthi-Sounds harmonisch vereinen.

Barmusik at it's best, der Swing für die Wochenend-Nacht, wenn die Stimmung auf ihren Höhepunkt zusteuert. Pure Lebensfreude ohne Gedanken an den Morgen. Zu diesem Sound-Cocktail schmeckt sogar die Zigarre.

Ein Lovesong, der ohne "I love you" auskommt und doch genau das sagt: Wer drei Wünsche frei hätte, denkt schnell an Geld und Gold, Ruhm und Erfolg. Doch die drei Wünsche hier heißen: Dein Herz, Deine Seele, Deine Liebe! Und das Schöne: Das gehört ihr bereits!
