A gently flickering light of artistry meets bold, big stage ambitions as Liverpool’s new favourite melodic storyteller, Astles, releases his latest single, Remember Us? Taking every moment of care with the lightest of reflective touches, pulling up roots of universal experience and emotion, while layering on brass signatures to a strolling beat, the singer-songwriter creates a warm world of memory, truth and arcing choruses. Astles’ newest release chalks the outline of the courageous splendour, which lies in wait on his debut album, Soundtrack For The 21 Bus Home, set for release on Fri 30 May 2025.

Introducing his first album with the release of the deeply affecting, “Super Mario 8-Bit Funeral” single We Could’ve Been Anything in February, Astles explained how the roads of inspiration led back to the loss of his uncle, and the discovery of his forgotten possessions in his grandparent’s loft. Exchanging a love of music across skipped generations, imagining loved ones never met and finding silver-linings in tragic loss, Astles discovery of a forgotten mix tape became a fountain of inspiration.

At the same time as linking family histories to the deep well of restless music waiting to emerge from within, Astles explores his own doubts, aspirations and wonders through his music, as heard on Remember Us? For everything that’s passed and for everyone that’s sorely missed, the present day-to-day offers just as much fascination.

’Remember Us? is a song about growing up, carrying parts of yourself with you and losing other bits along the way,” explains Astles. “It’s about my relationship with my partner Charlie, and how we navigate our ambitions and own goals in life. Whilst also nurturing our relationship and realising in the time we have been together, we have probably been multiple different people, ever changing and growing.

“It features a big arrangement, with horns and string sections. I wanted it to almost be my version of ‘Thats Life’ by Sinatra. I think I got as close as I could.  It features a sample of my Granddad Joe, encouraging the listener, to take a second to stop and think. I think it further takes you into the world I was trying to create with the record.”

Astles' earlier singles, including 2 And A Bit (Song For A Brother), Any Kind, and This One’s For You, built the base for the artist’s profile and creative kinships to grow. Having won the attention of Bill Ryder-Jones in the studio, drawing him into sessions to play guitars on We Could’ve Been Anything, Astles deft, beyond-years songwriting and stagecraft also won the heart of Michael Head, who invited Astles to support at his landmark, career-spanning homecoming at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall in December.

Looking ahead to announce more shows with his full band around the album’s release, Astles has added Green Man Festival to his current live commitments, which are confirmed as follows:

Sat 12 April: Birmingham, Hare & Hounds, Gingham & Friends All-Dayer

Wed 18 June: London, The Waiting Room

Thu 19 June: Leeds, Oporto

Fri 20 June, Glasgow, The Attic (Garage)

Available in multiple formats, including vinyl and CD as well as digital, Soundtrack For The 21 Bus Home was produced by Sophie Ellis, a collaborator with the influential INFLO (Michael Kiwanuka, Little Simz).
