Post-Punk Trio San Vito Ryder Drop Haunting Second Single 'I Am the King'

San Vito Ryder - 'I Am the King'

(Released 29th September 2023)

Pre-Save

Harnessing the raw power of bands such as The Stooges and imbuing it with the poetic miserabilia of the likes of Nick Cave or Leonard Cohen, San Vito Ryder have crawled from the damp recesses of our country’s capital during lockdown, recording fateful first demos in a disused speakeasy church bar (Trinity Bar in Harrow).

So far, so fitting.

These first demos caught the attention of producer Luke Oldfield (The Wytches, Metronomy and son of Mike Oldfield), who passed them to The Wytches’ frontman Kristian Bell. Both wanted to get involved.

The result was debut single ‘Tree Lilly’. Three minutes of clattering, somewhat unhinged post-punk, established the band’s aesthetic perfectly while turning further heads across the industry. Fast forward slightly, and the band are now on the cusp of their second single ‘I Am the King’.

A statement of intent if ever there was one, it’s another three-minute offering that feels even more unnerving than its predecessor. Rolling drums and rattling bass provide an almost militant feel beneath its psychedelic exterior whilst San Vito’s vocals are as sleek as they are unsettling.

Taste the charm and Listen. Fire can’t burn fire, baby.
