(17th January) Today, Manchester's Phoebe Green announces her new EP 'The Container' and presents new single "What Are You Doing". New five-track EP 'The Container' will be released on 21st March ahead of Phoebe's recently announced April UK headline tour.

Marking a significant evolution in her artistry, new EP 'The Container' was written and produced by Phoebe within the intimate settings of her flat in Manchester and her parents' house in the coastal town of Lytham St Annes.

"‘The Container’ feels so right for me at this point in time, I just think that these songs represent where I’m at in terms of taste, ability and emotional state. It’s been so freeing to be able to go back to recording in my bedroom and writing out of a sheer need to express myself, to document my growth and allow others into that," Phoebe offers.

New song "What Are You Doing" is released today and provides another enticing glimpse into the project, following first taste "Precious Things" released late 2024. Blending shadowy synth-pop with introspective lyrics, "What Are You Doing" grapples with the lingering anxieties and self-doubt ("Do you watch me from a distance?") that can surface after navigating a challenging and emotionally draining relationship.

Speaking more on the inspiration behind her new single, Phoebe said:

"‘What Are You Doing’ explores the mourning of a pretty toxic relationship, coming to terms with how damaging it was in hindsight, but how thrilling and all-consuming it felt at the time. Now that it feels so far in the past it’s impossible not to be curious about what this person is doing, how they’re going about their day to-day-life and wondering if I still take up space in their mind."

Phoebe Green's music has always been marked by raw honesty and captivating sonic landscapes, yet with new EP 'The Container' she delves even deeper, presenting the most genuine expression of herself to date.

"I’m so proud of the work I’ve put into myself over the past couple of years, and I think this EP is a true testament to that; trusting myself to write and release these songs with little external input and without trying to fit others’ expectations of who I am as an artist. This EP just feels very me. I’ve said a few times that I think our technical limitations can play a part in what makes us unique, and I think my lack of embarrassment these days about doing pretty much everything by ear has really shaped the way these songs sound. Allowing myself the freedom to just piss about and see what I think sounds good has felt so healing."

Working with producer & mixer Ric Levy upon finalising the EP, Phoebe continues to say:

"I’d been listening to a lot of Imogen Heap, St Vincent, Caroline Rose and obviously Charli XCX and Chappell Roan, though I don’t feel as though I’ve intentionally drawn much influence from anywhere in particular. I think I’ve subconsciously shied away from writing big pop choruses in the past, but I really loved experimenting with this on this new EP. I’ve really tried to marry the sounds with the lyrics and allowed the vulnerability to be a focal point, I mean what I say and if one day I don’t feel the same, then I’ll try not to be embarrassed that I once said something with conviction because at the end of the day I believe in something entirely until I don’t."

Phoebe Green's new EP 'The Container' is out 21st March. Phoebe will embark on a headline tour of the UK next April, tickets on sale now here. New single "What Are You Doing" is out now.
