Outer Shapes release sophomore EP, TOOTHACHE
TOOTHACHE refocuses Outer Shapes’ energy towards a sharper, more intense and unique sound, with roaring guitar and bouncing beats that continue to encapsulate the intimate, vulnerable storytelling that Outer Shapes’ fans have come to love. With unique synths and introspective, raw lyricism, TOOTHACHE brings a unique, undefinable edge that sets us apart. This EP is unafraid to talk about feelings that tend to be ignored, especially with women and nonbinary folk– anger, loss, responsibility, and strange desire.
Lead singer and bassist, Laura Shkouratoff, explains the first single off of the EP: “I'M NOT HOME,” is a punchy, emotional song that explores the guilt of being away from someone you love. With thick layers of textured vocals and creative, shifting synths and vocal chops, this song flies the listener through a world of loud guilt and spiraling thought.”
“This EP redefines Outer Shapes as a duo to be taken seriously.” says multi-instrumentalist and one-half of Outer Shapes, C Santos. “We’re reshaping ourselves and making it clear that we are ready to shout, to be inspired by the male-dominated genre that we grew up on while carving a unique space for ourselves within it, the voices that need to be heard and have long been silenced, which is the essence of the alternative scene. The collection of songs on TOOTHACHE are a reflection of what it means to have these big, red-hot feelings, and still exist within a world that tends to perceive queer women as soft and sweet. We’re contextualizing the space we take up through the flames that fuel us, that keep us up at night, that spiral our thinking in the spaces we find for ourselves throughout the chaos that is our lives."
