OUT TOMORROW: Ray Nita Unveils New Single 'Baby, You're So Real' - A Journey from Punk to 80s-Inspired Pop

Some say they saw Ray Nita soaring over the toxic beaches of Levittown, Puerto Rico. Others claim to have spotted her hopping through Bayamón’s cement jungle. Wherever the myth takes you, one thing is certain: Ray Nita bridges the fiery energy of Puerto Rico’s punk-rock underground with the smooth melodies of 80s pop.

Now based in Ventura, California, Ray Nita—comprising Tania “Ray Nita” Colón Morales (voice, bass, minor percussion, keyboards) and Snake Vélez (guitar, voice, keyboards, major percussion)—crafts earworms that are both infectious and thought-provoking, challenging unjust systems while embracing good vibes and great hooks.

Their latest single, ‘Baby, you’re so real,’ is set for release on December 30th, 2024, marking their third release since debuting in December 2023. Co-written by Ray Nita and Snake, the track explores love as more than an abstract concept, transforming into something tangible and real. With a sound rooted in alternative soul and tinged with the sexy grooves of 1980s R&B, the single takes a bold step away from their earlier indie rock vibes. A surprising gangsta rap outro ensures it stands out as an ambitious and genre-defying creation.

Accompanying the release is a music video, directed by Puerto Rican videographer and musician Gibran Morales. Featuring footage from their sold-out debut performance at Teatro Y No Había Luz in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the video captures the magic of that night, blending retro aesthetics, saturated colours, and nostalgic video graphics from late 70s and early 80s music videos. Yellow—the signature hue of the Ray Nita world—takes centre stage, symbolising joy and hope for all the bird-hearted dreamers.

Ray Nita’s journey began in the punk-rock subterranean scene of Puerto Rico, and now, from their Californian nest, they continue to explore new sonic horizons. Whether through soulful melodies, indie grooves, or unexpected twists, Ray Nita delivers music that’s as vibrant as it is multifaceted.
