Solitude Sometimes Is has released an epic synth-alt pop track as the second single from its upcoming album, Float.

“A Farewell To Arms” was originally written as a piano ballad but after listening to a lot of the darker elements of early New Romantic acts and, as always, Berlin-era Bowie, songwriter Owen James decided the synth route was the way to go.

“I like the shimmering sound of the bass on the track, it reflects that nervousness you get when you’re across the table from someone on a date and you’re hoping you don’t forget how to speak,” he said.

The tune is the second single in a row from Solitude Sometimes Is to be named after a book, following on from ‘You Left Early’, which referenced the Louisa Young memoir of the same name.

Owen said: “The Hemingway thing just seemed to fit with this. The book ‘A Farewell To Arms’ is such a beautiful tale of doomed love, and seeing as I’m massively over-dramatic I nicked it for the title. Although, unlike Hemingway, I haven’t suffered extensive injuries because of an exploding bomb.”

He added: “I should probably stop stealing book titles, otherwise I’ll end up writing a track called ‘The Hobbit’ or ‘Harry Potter’ and get myself sued.”

“A Farewell to Arms” is taken from Solitude Sometimes Is’ upcoming album “Float”, — set to be released on Sep 2, on CD, cassette, and digital.
