Norfolk acoustic song-writing duo The Brown to release “Still the Same” on April 25th & Album Launch show @ Lighthouse, Sherringham

“Fabulous acoustic music and intertwining vocals, not to be missed! ” - Joe McBurnie

— founder of #FolkOclock

“I absolutely love the warm and unmistakable vocal harmonies of the Browns. Their new single ‘Forgive and Forget’ fully lives up to expectations - it’s heartfelt, moving and full of musical sincerity.” - Terence Blacker

— songwriter and author

The Browns are an acoustic song-writing duo, engaging listeners with their arresting harmonies, the distinctive and fluid blend of their voices and tunes that are soulful, dynamic and performed with sincerity - and that get stuck in your head! With just two voices and one guitar, which Vernon plays upside down, they have developed an exceptional sound allowing their distinctive vocals to take centre stage and shine.

Annie (vocals, harmonies) and Vernon (vocals, guitar) have been writing and performing together for nearly five years. They first met at a dance as teenagers in 1977, lost touch after arrangements for a first date went awry, and reconnected 38 years later in 2015.  The intervening years gave them plenty of material for song writing, and they soon started playing at local events and open mics around North Norfolk.  They married in 2017, and in 2018 started writing and performing together as The Browns.

Over the last two summers The Browns have played at a number of festivals such as Deepdale Festival (voted  the best festival in Norfolk in 2022,) Bedford River Festival (Europe's largest free festival,) King's Lynn's Folk in the Town festival, Boar's Bridge Festival and Norfolk's Folk on the Pier festival.  They have also performed at Cambridge Folk Club, Bury Folk Collective and venues and events closer to home in Norwich and Norfolk.  Their songs have featured on West Norfolk Radio (where they performed two sets live in the studio,) Blues and Roots Radio,  Readifolk Radio, Wey Valley Radio and  Burwell Radio.

'Forgive and Forget' was the lead single, released in February 2023.  Played on more than 30 radio shows, it alerted audiences to the unique blend of voices and arresting harmonies that The Browns can achieve, meaning the album, 'Still the Same,' has been eagerly anticipated.  All eight tracks on the album feature the captivating unity of Annie and Vernon's uplifting voices which sometimes are at odds with the melancholy subject matter of their songs, making the result all the more poignant for the listener.

ALBUM RELEASE - 25TH APRIL 2023

STILL THE SAME

While The Browns' first album is unmistakably personal, their songs reflect themes that are universal.

'Still the Same' has been distilled from a collection of ideas formed over the last five years.  These ideas have been carefully nurtured and developed into songs that recognise and reflect upon human vulnerability.

Individual and shared experiences of love, rejection, pain and joy have been transformed through carefully crafted lyrics and beautiful harmonies and woven into songs clearly expressing themes that will resound in the hearts of their audience.

This combination of real and raw emotions combined with soft and intertwining harmonies has resulted in a dynamic and unforgettable collection of songs.
