Nick Shane shares single ‘Én Riverside’
Én Riverside is a melodic ode to time and reflection, inspired by a peaceful end to a busy and chaotic
year, and is the perfect follow-up to the equally dark and chaotic Shine Over Me (Feb 2023), and a
far-cry from the psychedelic/folk single Stranger Times (July 2022), and a million miles away from the
heavy mod/grunge album, Wired To The Moon (April 2022). Én Riverside features some of Scotland’s
best session and touring musicians, such as Ed Muirhead, Calum Ingram and Paul Lefty Wright,
creating a wholesome sense of wonderfully orchestral inner peace. The lyrics describe feelings of
both respite and restlessness, such as returning home after months of touring, quietly observing
what’s-what. The introductory verses describe the end of a relationship, which was a pivotal subject
in previous Nick Shane’s 2022 album, Wired To The Moon. Én Riverside will feature as part of Nick
Shane’s upcoming, and seventh studio album Silence/Golden (summer 2024 tbc). This particular
single “captivates the sound for the latter part of the album”, which will include predominantly
acoustic and folk tracks, complementing string and piano parts, performed by some exceptional
collaborators.
Én Riverside was written by Nick Shane in Spring 2018, after moving to a new area (Dundee’s
‘Riverside’) after a separation. He shelved this song after it’s writing, and during the pandemic of
2020, began to collaborate with a number of musicians around Scotland, building up it’s orchestral
dynamics. The song parts were recorded by Nick Shane (vocals, guitars), Ed Muirhead (piano), Calum
Ingram (cello), Paul Lefty Wright (harmonium). Drums, bass and percussion and backing vocals were
recorded by Nick, between his home studio and Stage 2000, Dundee.
Én Riverside’s upcoming music video (Release date 5 th January 2024) was shot in Dundee’s Balgay
Park in Summer 2021, and features one of Scotland’s finest actors, Kitt Ramsay;
