Last Hounds have been busy making moves in 2024. The Midlands crossover crew, known for there proficient blend of hardcore punk and modern hip-hop, recently wowed the crowd at Brixton Academy opening for scene legends NOFX. Bass player Ben Taylor opens up about the opportunity.

“Performing with NOFX on their final UK shows was a real “pinch me” moment, and playing at Brixton Academy was a huge bucket list achievement. It may be cliche to say, but we wouldn't be doing what we do without bands like NOFX. It was a genuine honour to be part of their farewell tour and we feel like we've been handed the torch to keep the punk rock flame alive.”

Now, Last Hounds return with a brand new single and a fire in their belly. ‘Disco’, released 14th June, reignites the signature RATM influenced hardcore with new influences and fresh ideas as vocalist Mikey Skelcher reveals.

"Disco is a fiery anthem about embracing your anger. We're often told to stay calm, take a deep breath, and just be nice. But sometimes, that just doesn't cut it. Sometimes, you need to let go of niceness and get angry at what needs to change. You might even want to smash everything in sight just to feel better about your problems. That spark of anger can ignite a real transformation in your life.”

As always, Last Hounds embrace other genres of music in order to create a sound unique to themselves as Mikey continues the story.

“I took inspiration for the song after watching a video of Hip-Hop dancers throwing shapes to some Funk and Disco. They looked so free and happy, just lost in the moment, dancing. I really wanted to make a track that people could dance to so we took inspiration from bands like Turnstile and Idles who are absolute crowd movers, but then sprinkled in some 00’s Indie references and mashed it together. What we have come away with is a song that ignites emotions—whether it’s the need to unleash your anger or just to dance and feel amazing about life—whatever works for you!”

Disco was recorded in the space of a few days with Sam Bloor at Lower Lane studios.

“We've admired his work with Graphic Nature, Black Coast, and Out of Love for a while. We finally found the right time to collaborate, and he brought so much to the table. Sam has a keen ear for melody, and we pushed ourselves musically, ending up with an absolute rager”

Also announced for September is Hellfest (FR) and the Hi-Stakes Tour, a punk rock package featuring the best new bands from the UK and US, The Last Gang, Split Dogs, Clobber and Last Hounds. Inspired by the legendary Warped Tour there are no headliners, but a rotating line-up for each gig.
