Kempsey’s Albums of 2024
Kings Of Leon - Can We Please Have Fun.
Safe to say that Can We Please Have Fun has found its way onto my Spotify Wrapped this year with my listening habits landing a whopping 2638 minutes across KOL’s albums placing me in the top 0.1% listeners with Mustang my no.1 Most listened to single and Nowhere To Run at no. 4.
Safely placed itself at my no.1 album for this year!
The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy.
This album has banger after banger, I can only describe them as If ABBA was a hedonistic feminist all girl altrock, baroque pop band. With my favourites Burn Alive, Feminine Urge and Nothing Matters. This album easily kept me comfortable on my long trips. A Chef's kiss Debut Album of 2024.
Mother Mother - Grief Chapter
Grief Chapter released on February 16th and two weeks later on the 28th I had the pleasure of experiencing Mother Mother live in Leeds. Such addictive choruses and healing lyrics and a point of bonding between my friend and I. My favourites are Explode! , The Matrix and God’s Plan. I can’t explain the chills I still get from this album.
Destroy Boys - Funeral Soundtrack No.4
This was an absolute privilege to review this album for CRB and to fall in love with it was a bonus. Very angry but driven with emotive social activism. A safe space for punks and members of the LGBTQ+ community. It displays the growth and journey that Destroy Boys went on to create their album. They left a lasting impression on me doing a live review and shoot for them in previous years so naturally they stick on my top 5. My favourites are Beg For Torture, Should’ve Been Me and Boy Feel.
Poppy- Negative Spaces
Since becoming a fan of Poppy during the I Disagree album, Negative Spaces really show the development since then. Everything is so full with such a vast range to her vocals and songwriting. My favourites are The Cost Of Giving Up, Crystallized and Nothing.
