John Denton is back with his fantastic new single ‘Not The Same’ released 21.2.25

John Denton is a Teenage Singer/Songwriter hailing from the west of Manchester, and although only 14, the Salfordian Singer already has the approval of Johnny Marr himself!

The topic and sound of John’s songs are often reflective of his hometowns culture, in many songs he displays his own experience and thoughts on the world, whilst the music has been described as a nod to Manchester. This is easy to spot in his new single ‘Not The Same’ which paints a picture of watching the world go by as a teenager.

Not the Same

John’s first single release is a relentless Indie tune with a catchy guitar rhythm. The lyrics tell the story of inequality in the world, Not the Same, refers to the situation we all find ourselves in. It also talks of modern day pressures to compare ourselves to others and the mental health issues this can give a generation of people young and old. The style has been likened to a mix of The Courteeners and The Smiths. It is certainly in keeping with John’s Salfordian roots.

In 2022 as a 12 year old John was recognised for his talent by Music Legend, and John’s hero, Johnny Marr. In December of the previous year an application form was released by Salford Foundation in search for a young musician to receive funding by the ex- Smiths Guitarist in order to support and push their musical journey. John applied in no time and as the foundation's CEO said on ITV ‘He stood head and shoulders above everybody else’. Since then John has gone from strength to strength and used the funding to push himself to become better, and is still determined to do that 3 years later.
