(15th November) Rising Irish singer/songwriter Annika Kilkenny has kept herself busy over the last month playing her first European mainland dates, a headline run at home in Ireland and support slots in London and beyond. Today, she shares her new single "Boots For Hiking".
Focused on living in the moment and finding joy in the big as well as the small, this new track is classically Annika; a warming salve for the all the over-thinkers out there. "Boots For Hiking" – like the rest of her forthcoming project – has been lovingly crafted with the help of producer Ant Whiting (Lana Del Rey, Matt Maltese) and co-writer Emily Phillips (Florence and the Machine, Matilda Mann, SOAK).
Growth is the through line that is intertwined with everything Annika is doing. Whether she's looking inward, honing her craft as a writer or building out her sonic world to be more expansive, this rising singer/songwriter is committed to taking her time when it comes to developing her art and forging a connection with her audience.
Talking about the new track Annika says:
"Boots For Hiking reflects on the feeling of continuously needing to be one step ahead of where you currently stand. It’s for people who feel older than they are, for whatever reason, and is a reminder for all to exist presently."
Having already opened for modern-jazz superstar Laufey and written a song about her hometown for Irish national broadcaster RTE, Annika is spending this autumn on the road again. Following her headline shows, where she debuted new material from her upcoming project for the first time, she'll be playing shows across the UK and Ireland.
Annika's biggest headline show to date is happening in Dublin at The Workman's Club on 14th December. It's the place Annika played live for the very first time just a few short years ago. Annika says "to be able to play any part in helping a person feel, experience or understand their current state is such a special thing." Stayed tuned for some festive treats from Annika before the year is done.
