Introducing: Sky_A Announces New Album 'Labyrinths' Released 28th March 2025
London-based singer and audiovisual artist Sky_A is pleased to announce his new album Labyrinths, set for release on 28th March 2025.
To celebrate the news, the aptly-titled lead single ‘Running Out Of Winter’ is released 16th January 2025 on all good digital service providers.
Taking his “worldbuilding with music” approach to the next level, the new single is a haunting, slow-burn offering that builds to a devastating crescendo and pulls on threads of wandering jazz bass, world music rhythms, and layers of progressive rock distortion—a peak behind the curtain of Labyrinths that tees Ainsbury up as a serious new talent to watch for 2025.
Commenting on the single, he says: “This track is kind of like a speed-run of a lot of different musical styles I'm using on the record, from the quiet and personal vocal-led stuff to really technical arrangements later on. It's a moment of conflict and crisis on the album, between the human heart and the machine bearing down on it.”
“It actually grew as a cutting from another track on the album, realising I could split them up and reprise some themes with more rhythmic complexity. It's become one of our favourite pieces to play live, it's so intense. For the recording I gave the drummer Adam Betts a lot of freedom with the final section—he's got unbelievable chops and I just wanted him to have fun shredding, it's quite a shamelessly aggressive track really.”
A Lumen Prize-shortlisted video artist currently touring live visuals for electronic musician Rival Consoles (Erased Tapes), Sky Ainsbury has spent the past several years honing his own sonic universe that is equal parts dystopian electronica and folk-inflected, heavy progressive rock.
Combining intimate songwriting with futuristic, cinematic production, and featuring the breathless math-rock chops of drummer Adam Betts (David Gilmour, Three Trapped Tigers, Squarepusher), the project is a journey into a troubled future, and has already drawn comparison with the likes of The Mars Volta, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, and Tool.
The project is now touring as a bombastic live A/V show, and Sky will be announcing live dates over the coming months.
