(23rd October) –– London art-pop sextet Flat Party today release "Madonna" - a spellbinding new taste of the band's second EP of 2024 'It's All Been Done Before', out 15th November on 12" vinyl and digitally via Submarine Cat Records (FEET, Home Counties, Prima Queen). New single "Madonna" follows previous EP taster "Shotgun" along with the EP's title track - released last month.

Led by vocalist Jack Lawther and guitarist Rory O’Rourke - on new EP 'It's All Been Done Before' - Flat Party build on their distinctive theatrical flair, doubling down on heavy distortion, sky-reaching vocal harmonies & wide-eyed orchestration.

New single "Madonna" moves with an innate intensity. An address of toxic masculinity and sexual manipulation, the song's unsettling lyrics are partnered by driving guitars and shimmering synths, as the song spirals to its unnerving finale: “You ask me what’s my favourite tune to go down to / You say: I’ll make you feel like you’ve never been touched before / I’ll make you feel like Madonna, baby”.

Flat Party kicked off this EP run with a raucous sold-out Windmill Brixton in July - following notable tour dates with English Teacher, Courting, Opus Kink, FEET in spring of this year. In the months that have followed - the band have attracted key tastemaker press support from sources including Whynow ("one of the most electrifying live acts in the country"), Wonderland Magazine ("supremely charismatic") Far Out ("Flat Party take the pop sensibilities of mid-2010s indie and drags them kicking and screaming into the present day"), DIY Magazine ("character and ambition in spades") - along with consistent glowing airplay from BBC 6 Music's Huw Stephens & Steve Lamacq, and an addition to Radio X's X-Posure playlist.

Speaking on the lyrical nature of new single "Madonna", singer and chief lyricist Jack Lawther said:

"This song is about sexually intimidating people. You know, the sort that have seen it all before and nothing you do will make it worth their time. Lyrically, It’s deliberately off-putting and kind of creepy. I wrote it pretty much all in one go, in a stream-of-consciousness where I just let that horrid part of my mind take over. Musically, it’s very repetitive, which I think comes from a lot of the krautrock and industrial music I was listening to at the time."

Co-produced with Chris McCrory (Walt Disco, The Joy Hotel), across new EP 'It's All Been Done Before', Flat Party hint at influence from 70's glam-rock, jagged art-rock, noughties alt-rock and everything in between - all the while flirting with ideas surrounding hedonism, desperation, promiscuity and blurry-eyed romanticism as they continue to carve out their own unique universe of colourful indie-rock.

With collective influences ranging from Big Star, Suede and Sparks, to Japanese Breakfast, The Replacements, Manic Street Preachers and David Bowie, Flat Party's music and overriding ethos historically has been rooted in escapism, yet their vision for the future of the project is more ambitious and sprawling than ever before, as Lawther explains...

"In comparison to the subtle optimism of our debut EP, the songs on our new EP are dark, hedonistic and dramatic.. There’s always been that side of the band present, so it felt right to represent it properly. Sonically, it’s all a lot more intense than the first EP too and we’ve really made the most of our musical arsenal when it comes to the arrangements."

Flat Party's new EP 'It's All Been Done Before' is out 15th November on Submarine Cat Records. Flat Party tour the UK this November, culminating in a London headline at The Lexington on 27th November. New single "Madonna" is out now.
