EP REVIEW: Sun Spot - Working Memory
Sun Spot's latest EP "Working Memory" is a cacophony of sounds and mystical visions. Crossing genres to create a dreamlike alternate dimension. Immersive, lo-fi, hedonistic and captivating it's a stunning soundscape of fragmented pieces brought together to form a collection of songs that are innovative, creative and artistic. Ahead of their time the band's diverse, uncategorizable sound mystifies with flawless execution. It's minimalist while also being fully engulfing.
"Working Memory" transposes elements of pop with funky beats and hip-hop tendencies diversifying further with indie aspects and heavier raw moments. The unique sound layers electronica with glistening, contemplative guitars. The vocals sometimes present as futuristic, others with a stunning melodic tone almost comparable to what you'd expect from a boy band while on other occasions they beam with raucous, pretentious energy.
Melancholy with gratifying hooks Sun Spot have crafted something so unique, so original but not, as is the case with some bands, experimental to the point of being a hard listen. Working Memory" will fill you with feelings and mesmerise with mysterious intrigue. It's an absolute gem of a record and unlike anything else you will hear this year.
