Elephant Path is the moniker of Devin Snelling, a native of California, now based in Salt Lake City, Utah via Louisville, Kentucky where he first laid musical roots, first as a full band project before striking out on his own as he has become a solo studio-based project pursuing the creation of a catalog of records; building a world for the latest incarnation of Elephant Path to exist in, with a long-awaited debut album ‘Expectations’ in the works, which is now previewed with its first pair of singles Your Weight in Gold & Don’t Know How to Feel and the promise they bring for the album to come, showcasing all that Elephant Path is - a prolific all-encompassing singer-songwriter with a penchant for folk infused bluesy rock & roll, that explores topics of love and experience, mixing unique textures & sounds over lush acoustics.
Now comes two songs that signpost the lead up to his new record - ‘Your Weight in Gold’ draws influence from bands/artists such as Cigarettes After Sex, Slowdive, and Atlas Sound and is a new take on a song that has existed since Elephant Path’s conception with its hypnotic guitars blending seamlessly with Devin’s reverb laden vocals on a track that seeps into your consciousness. ‘Don’t Know How to Feel’ is a folk-rock stomper, with Nashville TN based artist Mella Barnes' vocal complementing Devin’s perfectly on a song that provokes repeated listens and is reminiscent at times of Wilco and The Head and the Heart – two constant sources of inspiration.
In both cases, the gestation period has been lengthy, as has the forthcoming album as a whole with Elephant Path pouring so much of who he is into it, working and re-working the songs on it over the last year, and as he maintains “always serving the song” throughout.
