A four-decade voyage across unchartered musical territories has left behind map fragments to be pieced back together for the four members of Das Koolies and their latest single, Out Of This World, brings out the glue and tape to form a heady, electro-psych blend of time-travelling sonic ideas from their lives old and new. The fourth track to be drawn from their expansive debut album, DK.01, released on Fri 22 September 2023, the four-minute, synth-laced, rainbow-hued dopamine shot makes the ends of happenstance and intent meet to form a perfect circle.

Formed of long-term partners in earth-orbiting adventures in sound, Huw ‘Bunf’ Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Dafydd Ieuan and Guto Pryce, the four Super Furry Animals have previously released the uncompromising techno blast of Best MIndf*ck Yet, the driving plugged-in rock of Nuthin Sandwich and glam stomp of Pain Down The Drain from their much-anticipated, 17-track first album.

Until now lost to time but not to their collective memory, Out Of This World is anchored in ideas explored during Furries’ Hey Venus-era rehearsals, yet brought into the bright light of the present by guitarist, Bunford’s experimentations in a London basement. Hailing the almighty gods of coincidence as well as craft, the two ideas connected seamlessly during DK.01 recording sessions.

The band states: “Out Of This World is an amalgamation. Two songs melt into each other to become one. On one side, a source from the distant past, on the other a voyage of sonic exploration from subterranean Penge. Playing one into the other, they connected. Out of this world indeed.”

Having woven the Das Koolies name throughout their shared history through rumour-triggering media interviews, the emergence of the fabled band’s music will soon be met by the emergence of the band on the live stage. With rumours of additional dates to follow, the band will celebrate the release of DK.01 over THREE in-store appearances at Rough Trade shops, including opportunities to meet the band as they sign copies, as follows:

Fri 22 Sep – Rough Trade East, London

Mon 2 Oct – Rough Trade Bristol

Tue 3 Oct – Rough Trade Nottingham

Tickets for all dates are available now via DICE. For information on future dates, sign up for updates at daskoolies.co.uk
